Cutaway Display Engine

« on: May 15, 2012, 08:32:13 AM »
Yup... that one...

I have decided for reals now to sell it.  It needs a good home... at least a better one than I can give it.  I was working on one option, but that one kinda fizzled.  I am putting this ad up on here, to see if there is an interest in the club purchasing it.  I don't know what to ask for it.  I have seen ones in the past for $1500 or so... and there is no way on God's green Earth that I will recover my time or investment, but I am for sure over it now.  I know it's a big draw at the show... It would be great if the club could buy it, and display it at the dealer, like it used to be... then bring it out for BAP.  Then people could have the opportunity to enjoy it.  Anyway, discuss/ offer/ debate it here with me for a bit... I will be putting an ad up on the samba if I don't hear anything from the club in a week or so.  I mainly wanted to offer it up here first, to keep it local and avoid the wonderful flood of "samba trade offers"////
No i don't want to "give it to someone to store at their house"... I would like a little cash to put in the bank for the work I plan on doing with the bus.  I just don't have the space to store it, or, worse, the interest in keeping it any longer.  Therefore, it will go away....

I'd like somewhere in the neighborhood of $1k for it, but I might be negotiable if I like you...  ;)

Come and get it.

Thanks,
-Rick

Rick,
In all honesty, I want this.
I have no idea where I'll put it, but I'd like to work something out with you.
Let's get together and discuss via call or text.
Thanks,
KC

What would you do with it ?  Like Rick said, The club needs to own and stored on displayed at the Dealer to be shown at the BP's as in the past.  I know for a fact that the folks that made "cut-away's" for VW back in the day got as much as $10,000 plus per copy. I saw a great many of these when I was in all those VW schools in Maryland and none of those looked any better than Ricks artistic touch. The club does not need to let this piece of art get away. If any of you out there think this was a  easy project to complete , Just try it

This is just me talking since I'm not a club officer or anything, but I personally think the club should acquire it somehow. And we need to work a deal with Village to keep it on semi-permanent display in their showroom along with a nice plaque or a sign that has our name on it, along with Rick's name since he built it. Let them bring it out each year for BAP.

I would put it in my office with all the other VW stuff I have.
If the club wants it, then the club needs to buy it and offer the man the full $1K.
He has kinda pitched this in the past and hasn't had a serious offer from the club in the past, so I thought I would chime up.

If the club wants it, I want us all to have it.  If not I'd like to work out something with him.

Now go back and take your med's, your blood pressure is spiking again...
LOL,

Sounds like a plan to me.   8)

In your office ?  Wouldn't that be like putting the Mona Lisa in a Easy-up(Blue thingy) in your back yard corral of questionable  autos ?   My meds are "long necks" of very high quality. The only blood pressure spike lately happened when I heard that SC moved further north. ;D ;D

Sounds like the best option to me too, if that's what the club wants to do.  Might even see if Village will help with the aquisition price too.   ;)

I would like to see the club retain this. I understand that we would have to have a willing partner in order to display the engine, but it is worth trying to make sure it happens. Perhaps we should bring this up at the meeting next Monday.

Where can I see this again ? I saw it at BAP and spoke with you for a few minutes. I was looking for one of these and would also like to keep it local and available for future BAP events.

^^^^ It's currently stored away.. in the way... again.  That's the biggest reason for my decision to sell it.  When I took it out for the show this year, it had literally sat in storage from the previous years show for 362 days.  Just like the year before.... and the year before that...  I think it deserves better.

What about this? I've met several of the club members, been to a few of your drive-in meetings, and been to Bug-a-palooza for about every year since it started. I've lived in Chattanooga for 31 years, so your engine would remain local. I'm just not much of a "club joiner"... I'd love to have this, and would be willing to let it be displayed at future BP events. Maybe even Village VW if I knew it would be safe and secure.
I don't mean to "low-ball" your price, I think it is probably worth the full $1000, but I can't go that much.
I would be willing to pay $750.00.
If you are interested, let me know by this forum and I'll give you my contact info.
Thanks,
Nick Jordan

I'll put that in the consideration pile.  I have had the same offer, but it would be leaving town at that price with him.  Let me think about it a bit.   Still want to see what the club wants to do about it.  It is sort of a show fixture now, so I think the best case scenario would be for the club to have it.  If not, staying local with someone who is willing to bring it out to the show is the next best thing.  I will think on it a bit, and see what what is decided at the club's meeting on Monday.

Thanks

 ???
-Yoo Who,
I want dibbs if the club doesn't want it.
As expressed before, I want the club to own it.
But since this seems to be going down the same path as the last time you offered it, I just want to state I am serious about having it.
