anybody know a good junkyard? - need some cheap used parts

« on: April 02, 2003, 02:30:24 AM »
hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get some good used parts in the Chattanooga area.  I need a dual port intake manifold and an extractor header for a 1600.  I'm a little cash poor and I really need to get these soon, as my bug is my only way around!

Harry Guin down by the Chickamauga Battlefield probably has what you need.  Go through Fort O until you get to the light @ the N. end of the park, make a L, he's on the L a couple of miles up the road.  He can be moody, so 'yes, sir' and 'no, sir's may be in order if you're looking to make a good impression, but he's always been good to me.  You'd be amazed at what he can find in that building!

You might also try Alvin Vaughn who has the stuff on hwy 41 N of Dalton.  (N. Dalton/Rocky Face exit, go E.  L. at Hwy 41 4-5 mi. on R.) Good chance of finding it there, and maybe a little cheaper, eh?  Nice guy, been to some meetings.

You may need to be flexible on the exhaust; not too many junk cars with usable exhausts, you know.  Maybe someone in the club has an extra around.  Anyone?

Good luck!

I can probably round you up a good used dual port manifold.  I have a single quiet pack on my 74 Super . . . I'd gladly trade the extractor and muffler for a good stock German muffler (a used one is fine as long as it doesn't have holes rusted through it).  Email me (zenph@comcast.net) if you want to do some trading.

hey thanks guys,
I'll try that place in dalton, I've been to Harry's before and I think I'm too much of a yankee for him.  As far as trading goes I don't really have anything to trade.  My current muffler is a crapy Monza I got from Jc Whitney.  When I put it on the plates that connect it to the intake were welded on upside down and I ended up cracking it at the bend "finessing it on."  So needless to say be wary of ordering from JC Whitney.

Yep, you have to be careful when you buy stuff from Whitney.  Most places either handle the top of the line stuff at super high prices, or junk at low prices . . . I've found that Whitney sells it all and unless you know the brand you are buying, you never know if you are getting a bargin on a quality part or getting ripped on junk parts until they get to your door.

I buy stuff from them ocassionally and have gotten some fantastic deals . . . but your right, you have to be wary when you order from them.
