I have scoured the web and the online auctions, but most of the high quality beetle convertibles for sale seem to be all the way out in California.  Can the Volks Folks give me some information about who might sell and/or restore beetles in East Tennessee (or within a reasonable driving distance)?  I'm having a hard time finding my dream car.  Here's a picture of what I would love to have, but this car is already sold.  http://www.cars-on-line.com/71vw2655.html Thanks for any help you can offer.

Jami, do you still have your 79 for sale?

thesamba.com is a good place to look.  I've seen a few a convertibles from GA and TN advertised in their classified section.  I'd also look at the Southeastern VW Club's classified section and maybe the The AVWA's classifieds (if they still have one . . . I haven't looked there in a while).  There aren't a whole lot of "nice" convertibles out there, and be ready to pay a premium price when you do find one.  But don't give up (or in).  If you look long and hard, every now and then a rare bargin will fall into your lap!

I noticed your dream car is a 1971 year model and I hope that particular year model is NOT your "dream" year.  A lot of parts on that car are "one year only" parts and next to impossible to find. If the front hood was damaged and you tried to find a replacement, the price would start around $500 IF you can even find one. Window regulators are another problem.

Good Luck with your search.

I did email her with about half a dozen ads over here on the E. Coast directly from Samba.

And I'm not sure what VW Herb is referring to. Parts for my 71 Super are CHEAP. I can get the hood for $139.00 from JC Whitney.

Are you sure?  There might be a slight differance in where the VW logo mounts, but a 72 Super Beetle hood should fit a 71 and 73 and up Supers should all interchange . . . but I can't find ANY Super Beetle Hoods on Whitney's web site (http://www.jcwhitney.com).  They have Beetle hoods listed, but not Supers.

Good original 71 or 72 Super hoods will bring a premium price . . . it's usually easier and cheaper to buy a 71 Super parts car than it is to find a good hood by its self.  Still, I wouldn't shy away from a 71 Super Convertible if the right deal came my way . . . in fact, I've bought two 71 Super Sedans in the past . . . still have one of them . . . it has a swing axle transaxle (previous owner did that!!!), no engine, a bent up front apron and some rust through on the hood . . . but it was only $50 so I'm not complaining! It's been sitting in my mom's back yard for about 5 years . . . now, she has been known to do a little complaining about it, but not me.   :D

Please go back to your J C Whitney catalog and double check just the hood I mentioned then get a good source for parts such as Rocky Mtn Motor Works or any other good retailer for Volkswagen parts and look for a hood to fit a '71 SUPER. You will find they don't exist.              Thank You
