Need old Bug

« on: June 06, 2004, 07:20:22 PM »
All right!!  Herb has banned me from making a VW out of my Volvo and I think I can`t come out and play until I get one. I have a plan but I need some help here. What I need is the following :   1964 or older Bug. It does not have to run, It does not need to shift gears ,nor does it have to stop. It could have been run hard and hung up wet, But it needs to be all there and have a decent pan ( If that is possible Ha ) I guess the bottom line is, I need a good Roller for my project. I would like to find around close to home(Chatt.) I have been hiding so long, I don`t know whats out there anymore. Can anybody help me out here?

I'll keep my eye's and ear's opened for one and let you know if I locate one that might fit your needs.  Pre-65 bugs are still out there, but most of them are totally trashed and rusted away, or you'll have to part with at least one arm, one leg, and your first born male child to get it.  The closest I've seen lately to what you might be looking for is the one that Herrell's Bug Parts (180 Martin Rd., Carrollton, GA   770-836-0749) has one advertized on the Southeastern VW Club's classified section.  It's description says:

"55 Oval. Lots of parts missing. Rust here and there.  $500."  That might be a bargin . . . it might be way too much.  Depends on where and how much rust there is.

David, there is a gentleman over here in Collegedale by the name of John Hagan who just might have a rolling Bug. I don't have his phone number but if it's not in the book, I can take you to his house and will be glad to.

I sure am glad to know you are looking but you don't have to have one to "play". :D

Thanks Herb,  I have know John a long time. He came to my Bro-inlaws (where the keys came from) funeral in May. First time I had seen him in a very long time. I think He mentioned owning a 56-57 oval and has been restoring it for the last 20 years. You know how that goes. Not sure if he would sell it, But I didn`t ask at that time. I think I know where he lives.I`ll have to be nice to John because he knows where the guy lives that I sold my Kubel tranny and Kubel front spindles to and thinks that I can buy them back. I will check him out. Thanks for the tip. If I can`t find him , I will let you know.

Yes, he has been restoring the Oval for a long time but he's letting the body sit outside ON THE GROUND!! I'm afraid by the time he gets around to it, there won't be anything left. He does have a couple other older cars sitting around up in the woods.

I've got a '77 Beetle that was to be my project.  Everything is there, although in pieces.  The engine needs to be rebuilt...someone's bad bondo job around the rear quarter windows needs to be fixed...small hole where battery sits...interior needs refurbished, etc.

But now I see by your post you want a '64 or older.  But if you change your mind...  ???

In a recent post, Linda offered up this Beetle if the club wants a project Beetle...I can't really donate it, but I do believe that $500 will get it out of my garage.
