Check with Alvin Vaughn in Dalton, Ga.  I was at his place 2 weeks ago and he had about 6 Vw's for sale.  His number is 706-483-0072 or 706-259-5491.  Super great guy to deal with!

Love Alvin to death, but do not buy a car that has had a new paint job on it from him.
Buy one that he has not "fixed up" - You can usually spot where he has done "body work" to them.  He loves Bondo, just a warning.
He usually has a few that he hasn't touched.  He is a great guy to deal with and he will tell you he isn't a body man - He doesn't lie about that.

I just like to know what it looks like Pre-paint.

Any way as JR said, super nice guy to deal with.

We bought Joy's 75 Convertible from Alvin over 15 years ago.  He had done some bodywork and painted it . . . and like ASBug said, he'll be the first to admit he's not a paint and body man.  But, regardless of the excessive bondo and a couple of patch pannels that were "bondoed" in place (well, almost in place), it looked decent for several years.  He was up front about everything he knew about the car and sold it to us at a very fair price.  If he had a car I was in the market for, I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again.  I third the motion that he's a super nice guy to deal with!

I've also been seeing a lot of late model bugs for under $1000 on craigslist lately ( http://chattanooga.craigslist.org ).  Several of them have been pretty much complete and appear to be fairly solid.  A couple of them have even been drivers as-is.
