Ye Gads !!!!   You have Grits ????     Have you consulted your Doctor about this yet ??   I think they have shots for this type of deformity.
If this doesn't help you could always add a couple of Hen Fruit and some Country Ham. This is a old time cure for the Grits so said my long departed Grammy

How is Stupie by the way SmellyCat? I mean other than the spider problem. I miss his stories. Does he still have insurance?

wow, yall are really on subject today arent ya?
Stupies famous enough already he has his own book by now.

As for advice on buying bugs, I havent seen alot of buying or selling in the club. I think Me and Rick are the only ones that have been swapping cars every 6 months.
I'm sure theres alot of tips but I would say find the most solid and original car you can and start there.
Here's a list of things I seem to always be doing to a "new" bug:
1)Replace all braking components(turn the drums and keep em if you can)
2)Replace all fuel related items or refurbish them.
3) For some reason I just have to pull every motor and go through it.Even if it's good I tear it down and put it back together. At least its all clean and pretty when your done.
4) find and fix as many leaks as you can it saves money in the long run.
5)Go through the wiring harness and clean all the contacts and replace all the fuses and bulbs. Theres many a problem fixed by cleaning the grounds .
6) throw on some new tires and hit the road.

You can skip about half of this if you buy a daily driver thats already on the road, but then again there's Stupie lurking out there.

AMEN!  90% of an old VW's electrial problems can be traced to a bad connection somewhere . . . just hope that some amature automotive electrician hasn't tried to "fix" it by hacking into the original wiring and adding extra circuits!  Most of the time, you just have to find the bad connection and clean (sometimes replace) the connectors.  After you get the connections clean and tight, use a dab of dielectric grease on them to keep future corrosion at bay for another 20 or 30 years.

You get the idea these are what I would consider a good point to start from in a owner who is new to vw's. need a lil love but not a complete work over. best bet if you can drive it home you should be okay.
