Looking for a Beetle!

« on: August 21, 2008, 02:03:49 PM »
Hi Guys,

I am looking for a Beetle to fix up. I am interested in anything '61- '72.
I'd like to find one that runs well but needs to be fixed up and as close to Chattanooga as possible.

I have tried Samba and Ebay, but no luck.

PM me if you have any for sale!
Thanks!

There are very few "decent" bugs in the area on Samba. Most of the better ones are sold before they hit samba. It usually starts with a accidental find or somebody who knows somebody kinda thing.

Stay away from 68 and up,they have very little resale value if you change your mind later you will lose money. On the downside 67's and down are getting harder to find and the prices are going up daily.

I know of several for sale local and semi local. Let me know what your looking for and what you would like to spend,I may know of one in your price range I may not. You wont find the words nice and cheap in the same sentence, but decent and reasonable are obtainable. If you find a "decent" one remeber a little more cash on the purchase has been known to save alot later on. A lesson I've learned the hard way.

This money is burning a hole in my pocket if I don't get rid of it soon it will be all gone and I will have to hire a Bondsman to get Feebee released.

If you want a decent bug and dont want to do alot of work right off the bat start looking in the 4k and up range. A 2k bug will need alot of work to make a good driver and look decent.Take someone with you when you look at it. Alot of people will sale you a cheap bug but there wil definetly be a reason why it was cheap. Your going to end up spending 6k or more before you know it. Keep in mind the cost to keep it in shape and more important the cost to get it in shape to start with.

I bought a nice solid bug for under 4k then I spent another 4k before I really called it reliable. And be sure to know you wont ever get what you paid or put into it back. Unless it's ultra rare to start with and then it's already pricey.
If its been sitting figure on all new brakes and lines just to start. Then tires and fuel related items, how good is the motor? You'll find out!I've seen a few folks buy real cheap bugs recently and get about half way towards getting them going to figure out they should have bought a nicer one to start. Dont follow my example,I'll buy any VW thats old and crusty, but I like to build them as a hobby, you may not.
Dont get me wrong you can find a ok bug for 2k but these days it almost cost that to rebuild a motor and thats sumthin to think about.

hey BugMike take my advice...no wait don't ever take my advice.  :lookaround:  I have found that if you or your friends have some knowledge of the female bugs anatomy you really don't  .  Ask the people who know like these folks. I took my Feebee (72 super) in for a little check up and she got a complete female adjustment and removal if you know what I mean :-k  But thousands of dollars later she's almost road worthy. Don't be afraid to ask questions here it will turn into a saga.

:D  Thanks for all the responses and advice. It makes sense. I am mechanically challenged, so I was hoping to get a good driver I could fix up.

Thanks again for any help!

Prez in 2012 ?     Well lets see. I'll trade Airforce-1 in for Airforce -5  ( a Hover Around Scooter)  Kyle for Vice Prez because nobody knows where he is much less knows what he is up to,   Big Dummy for Sec. of Defence with his Nail Gun and slick handle hammer who knows the true meaning of "Lock&Load.  Justin for Sec. of the Treas. because he found out how to use all 10 fingers and toes at the same time,  Scott for Press Sec. because he knows where his left foot is most of the time and knows how to confuse the peasents  and last but not least  Virgo062(Debbie) will be the new U.N. Sexytary who can manage to Whine loud enough to scare BinLadin off.
What do you think ?

You were warned BugMike and welcome to the Forums.  Nobody is safe here including me.   Before you think that a war has started we do this kidding around all in fun.   That way the forums don't get boring.
Don't kid around Big Dummy to much. He is a very dangerous "Varment" when he has his nail gun handy .   Most other times he is just a Big'O Pussy cat
