It's a done deal. The new owner is a guy in Houston, Texas by the name of Antonio. If you wanna see what he has to keep the double cab company, do a gallery image search on the Samba for his user name "Antonio"... The other primary toy in his garage is a 1958 Binz Double Cab, the one-year only version... only this one is fully restored and incredible... I am a big fan of his old Westies that he has owned over the years. Really cool guy, he called me excited, said a friend had seen the ad, and we were making the arrangements for the money only hours after i had placed the ad.. The other serious interest i had came from a guy located in the Netherlands.
He paid me for the truck, but it is staying here for now. I am going to finish all the metal work, put an engine in it for road testing it, and after all is deemed good, pull the engine and ship it west to houston. He also has the stuff to convert it to a RHD set-up... how cool would it be to do that before it heads out.... It's really cool for both of us, he gets the peace of mind that all he'll need to do is an engine and go, and I'll get to see it through it's completion.

And, as for the replacement, I have been thinking really hard, and sensible side won. I am going to buy my Golf, more correctly, pay it off a year early, pay off a couple other little things, and drive a few hours to pick up a Velvet Green '67 Pop-top Westy from a friend of mine that was m-coded for the big-top tent and roof rack from the factory... both are gone, but the patina is quite lovely....

It'll look really nice dumped on the ground....
