Does anyone know of a 81-84 diesel Rabbit for grabs. NO JUNK please.
It would be nice if it were close to Chattanooga. It does not need to be perfect, but I don`t want to have get a Tetnus shot to get near it. I have 500gals of fuel in my basement. That is one year of driving for me.

This one is in Atlanta, it's a '98 TDI Jetta with 110K miles: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/car/94573937.html

Good luck Godfather, diesels these days are rare. Have you thought about selling some of that diesel to your fellow club members?

No TDI for me . They may be quiter and smoother and faster, but I couldn`t afford to do the maint. on it. $700 timing belt changes, $70 oil changes seems a little out of line for me. I prefer the $20 belt change, $15 oil changes because I can do the job. They may be a little slower , but I can put up with "clicking & clacking" from the older diesels besides they get about the same fuel mileage as the TDIs.  I read a report that stated that the Hybrids are not getting the milage they claim.
Russ, take care of your Jetta. You have the last of the good ones.

David, here is a recent article on CNN about the hybrid cars. They say unless gas goes up to about $9.20/gal you're not going to see significant savings due to the higher costs that offset these vehicles. Plus I don't think anyone has had one has had one of these things around long enough to know exactly how long the batteries will last you, how much they will cost for replacement, etc.

As for my diesel, I am enjoying it and I hope it lasts a long time. I've just changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, and fuel filter in it recently. I'm hoping I can get with you on an "inspection" for it soon, too.

I may be wrong here, but I think I read somewhere that the batteries could cost somewhere around $1000 to $1700 to replace depending on the brand name,  Whew !!!    Don`t know long they are supposed to last. :?
