Flat windshield super beetles were '71 only I think. I don't believe this to be a '74.

According to super beetles.com the first year for the curve windshield was 73, but i am still unsure how reliable that source is, not a fan at all, so there lies my lack of knowledge

71 and 72 Supers had flat windshields. 73 and on supers had curved. I sold parts in Houston for many years and this is the fact. 71 and 72 super verts, only kind they made these years, had flat. 73 to 79 verts, also only supers, had curved. All standard Bugs up to 77,when they quit making them in Germany, had flat. The Bug in the ad is a 71-72 Super. Beware of wrong title.

X2-
Unless the rear lights have been changed, it is a '72.
The '71's didn't have side reflectors on them and this has the holes on the sides for a set of the reflectors.
Bottom line if he has a title for a '74, then he (un knowingly or not) has a hacked up mess on his hands and you do not want it...

Another way to tell a 71 from a 72 is the steering wheel.  71 was the last year for the old style steering wheel with a metal horn ring.  72 and later had the steering wheel with the big plastic horn button.

And no, they don't just interchange.  The turn signal lever is a different depth from one year to the other.  If you put the earlier wheel on, it will hit the stalk.  I installed one on my '72 because I wanted the older style wheel, not that late model plastic looking thing, but had to file out some slots in the backside of the steering wheel for it to clear.

Oh, and One more.... 2 vent sections on the engine lid for '71.... 4 sections for '72....

This is fun... super beetle trivia....  ;D
