Hello all!  I really love the site and was sad I couldn't make Bugapalooza this weekend.  

Much to my chagrin, I am selling my 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon – Westfalia.  This is the ultimate campingmobile.  I bought the van just over three years ago and have made many improvements since.  To get started, here are the essential specs:

1991 VW Golf engine – 1.8L.  Runs great.  The van originally had an air cooled engine, but this was removed in favor of the water cooled Golf engine – it also has more HP.

Wedge-camper top.  Folds up to make a double bed on the upper level.  
Double bed on the lower level when you fold the seats down.
Sink and stove – work great.  I have used both extensively.
Fridge – I can only assume it works.  It gets propane (when you turn it on you can smell it), but I have never used it.
Two table tops that swing out on arms for added convenience.
Closet.
Plenty of extra storage space in cabinets, etc.
CD player.
20 gallon water tank mounted on the bottom of the van.
Screens that can be attached to the back and front to allow for camping with the “windows open.
The official guidebooks for both the Vanagon and the 91 golf engine.

Improvements I have made since purchase:
Replaced the clutch.  Also replaced the head gasket.  Replaced tires and brakes.  Replaced master cylinder.  Replaced battery.  I also have a power converter that you can plug most appliances in to and run.  I once went camping at a festival where people used my extra power to get on laptops, dry hair and watch TV (though I did not officially condone such practices when camping – the other folks loved it!).

This is a wonderful automobile if you want to do a lot of camping/hiking and still want a really comfortable place to sleep and eat.  I have taken the van on trips to NC, KY, GA, SC, FL, AL and WV.  It has been in the mountains a good deal; however, you cannot expect to drive the same speed as you would in a sports car on steep inclines!!  I have to get rid of it because of mounting graduate school costs and an anticipated move abroad upon completion of my MA.

I am asking $3000.00 firm.  If you have been in the market for one of these treasures, you will likely know that finding one on the east coast at a reasonable price can be extremely difficult.
