Well I'm just gonna have to finish it. Then you can cry and wish you would have paid for it when it was cheap. :)

I gotta go get it this week. I made a deal on it but now relize I bit off more than I could chew. I'll know more after I get it in the garage. The interior is out, bumpers off motor pulled. And all the rust repair(it was very minor) Is 99% done. It needs fender welting and a few gaskets to put the motor back and be a running car. I didn't wanna back out on the guy,so I was thinking of keeping the motor and carb set up and getting half the money back by selling the rolling chasis. The trans is still in it.The tins are good and have been repainted. He also has alot of interior pieces and new rubber for the windows. It's bout ready to pop out the glass and paint. You could go back to the injection system but I dont know yet what all it has in that department. I could put it together and finish it and make a killing on it. But I'm really interested in a 63 ragtop project. I want those stripes off my 67

Just to clarify the $350ish is just the rolling chasis and tranny with the interior parts and other parts no engine or carbs.

I know you saw the topic on a type3 engine in a type 1. this is how the question started. If the answer to that one is not good then I could work a deal on the motor or a trade for a type 1 motor. I think Travis may have the fuel injection stuff for a type 3 To set it back up? I'm really interested in that 1800 stroker motor Idea you have. I might be asking for a parts list soon   I'm thinkin twin carb 1800 Herbie.(63 not 67) Think I could get him to wheelie?

It was actually a 1850cc .  I'm not real keen on twin carb set ups. You have to fiddle them all the time and it makes it a lot harder to get spark plugs in and out. I wish they still made the old Zenith 32 DNIX carb. It was a 32mm non-progressive 2 barrel carb. They show up on e-bay and Samba sometimes.
Heck !! You can do all the wheeleys you want to , but I want a contract to do all your transmission work. With the ratios your tranny has it would be a bear on topend and in the mountains around here. I never knew what the top end was on my `67 /1850, but the speedo neetle was in the middle of the turn signal light on level ground. Better have some really good brakes

Funny I was thinking of upgrading to disc brakes anyhow.
On a side bar I noticed your looking for some pistons? I aint as savy as you but are they for a 1300 motor? 77mm? If so I might know somebody .

1300cc have the same bore (77mm) as a 1200cc 40hp , but have bigger wrist pins . Wrist pin location is different I think. You could say that a 1300cc 50 hp engine is a stroked 1200cc 40hp. The 1300 was one year only in the U.S.  Also different heads. The heads looked like single port 1500-1600cc with the angled intake port, but retained the smaller 40hp valves and combustion chamber dia.

Not even gonna lie to you. I will probably get a good start on  a 63 ragtop resto with the money. I didn't feel like mesing with it because I know if I complete it I wont like letting it go. But like they say everything has a price. I have seen some pretty nasty looking vw's around town sell for crazy prices lately. It's insane.

10-4 On the insane prices. Since I have returned to the fold, Its been total sticker shock. I wouldn't have ever thought that a aircooled VW would demand these kind of prices. I guess folks said the same thing about A- model and T-Model Fords much less 55-57 Chevys and others.
Oh well, I guess you have to pay to play. :?
