Electric cars are not the answer.    Chevy just came out with a all electric small SUV looking thing that they were bragging about going a whole 30 miles before you have to recharge the batterys  WOW !! A whole 30 miles ??    I can see it now, lines of these things sitting on the side of the free-way with dead batterys because Grandmas house is 42 miles away. You better have an extention cord from Hell.

Where did find the motor?  I've been looking for one myself . . .

I want to build an electric vehicle that will run at least 45 MPH and have a range of at least 60 miles.  That way I could drive it to work and back on one charge even after I move to my cabin.  I'd like to have more speed, but 45 will do until I get the range over 60 miles . . . then I'd sacrifice range for speed.

We have some newer technology electric fork lifts at work . . . they out-perform our LP trucks any way you want to compair them.  Motor and controller technology as well as battery and charger technology have come a long way in the past few years.  It won't be long before electric (not hybred, but pure electric) vehicles are common.  You can't buy anything practical "off the shelf" yet.  However, the parts and technology are out there right now for you to build something yourself that can get you back and forth to work . . . and only cost you pennies per day to recharge.
