1994 Golf III - We won it on eBay!

« on: August 30, 2003, 11:25:13 PM »
VERY early Sunday morning, we are heading to Ocean Springs, MS (somewhere near Biloxi) to pick up this 1994 Golf III that we won on eBay.

Tell us we're not crazy!
I'll probably drive it to the next meeting for show and tell.

You're not crazy.  Well, maybe a little, but it has nothing to do with this Golf!  LOL    :D

Maybe this will make for the time you drove a Honda for show and tell.

Nice job!  Sounds like a good price and car.  I see you slugged it out with "Reveti" on the last day.  How close did he come to your proxy with that last bid?

Careful with those "90% good" tires!  Try not to drive on the other 10%! :D

Congrats!

"Reveti" came within $305 of our high bid.  We bid an extra $5 over what we thought would be our maximum just to throw him/her off a bit.

There are some things about the car that weren't disclosed in the vehicle description.  Like "minor body work done to hatch", "this vehicle is not as clean as we state", "there's a crack in the front passenger side turn signal", "a tear in the shift boot", "the cruise control we mentioned...well, it's not there", and "oh yeah, it's missing the rear compartment cover".

But overall, I am satisfied.  It has some pep!  And the 90% good tires are actually about 95% good!  But I was never good at percentages...

We left home around 4:45am and returned home at 1:15am.  LONG day of driving.

Ok.  So I have been waiting for the title for this car for too long.  The person I bought it from took possesion of the car on August 4, 2003.  I bought the car from them on September 1, 2003.  They had yet to receive the title from the state of Mississippi, but I took the car home on a promise of them sending the title to me when they got it.  After what I thought was a reasonable time to wait, I started bugging the PO (previous owner), the dealer she bought it from, and the MS DMV themselves.  No luck with any of them.
Well...
October is almost over, and I still don't have it.
Well, at least not yet.  I got an email from the PO who said the title came to her yesterday and she is sending it on up to me.  It sure does seem like it just took forever to "complete the sale".
Now I get to drive it to Florida next week!  Of course this is after I get an official 80,000 mile VW tune-up from Village Volkswagen along with tinted windows, and (hopefully) keyless entry from Alta Mere Window Tinting and Auto Alarm.

We're glad you finally have it too.  Life in Mississippi moves at a very slowwww pace.  We have offices in "the Delta" and they don't get in much of hurry over anything.  I mentioned your situation to a friend there and it has taken from August to October to get his title also.  8 weeks is the usual he said.  Anyway, it will be all ready for a road trip next week!!!

Oh really?  And why is that?  'Splain to me.  Advantages...disadvantages and so on.
I really like the body style of the MKIII Jettas.
I talked to a guy at Pep Boys on Saturday who was driving an '88 Cabrio.  He said he liked it because he is more into the "old school" look.

What I really think I'll eventually want is an early '99 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition (before the accursed body style change).  LOVED our '98...

The days slip into weeks and change into months.
No title today, but the tracking number for USPS puts it here tomorrow by 3pm.  Will the wait be over?  Will our hero get it in time for the journey this weekend?
Stay tuned and find out!

I am about to go on a rampage.  And for me to go that far, something has really got to make me mad.

I got the title today.  The name on the title was spelled wrong.  The seller went ahead and signed the name in the incorrect spelling, didn't print her name under her signature, didn't have her son's name (co-owner) printed under his signature.  So now I have to send the title back to her for her printed name and send the proper paperwork back to her to fill out and have notorized. One of the papers I need from her is a notarized sworn affidavit stating that the mispelled name and her name are the same person.

The name was typed and printed on HER application for title in Mississippi.  How could the MS DMV mispell a name that was plainly printed and typed on the application?  I don't know.  I just know that because of stupid government crap (pardon my Swahili), I can't drive my Golf to Florida.

Or is this a sign that maybe the car shouldn't have gone to Florida this time?  Hmmm...

By the way, are all DMV workers angry and unfriendly?  Every time I have to deal with them, I never get one who is in a good mood.  Just wondering. ???

Can I get an "Amen"?  How about a "Hallelujah"?  After 3 months (to the day!) I finally have a tag to put on the Golf.  I can finally drive it...legally!  Marti, down at the DMV, gave me a much more pleasant experience than Wendy did.  No problems whatsoever.

Tell you what, if anything, this experience has taught me to not blindly trust what I see before me and to not call a transaction complete until it actually is complete.

So...appearing at the next club meeting...my Golf.

On another note, JAI JOHNSTON, I hear you detail cars.  Give me a quote!  I'm not talking about graphics and such...just a total bumper to bumper cleaning and touch up.
