1979 Dasher---SOLD

« on: January 12, 2007, 08:48:40 PM »
All right, no jokes, please.  I'm clearing the driveway prior to my move back up to Signal Mtn.  I've already got an interested party for the Fox, if that doesn't work out, I'll be listing that.   For now, the only intact car I'm listing is the Dasher.  here's the facts:
Year:  1979
Body:  4 door hatchback, decent/straight, one rust hole rear of the pass rear wheel arch.
Color:  med. metallic blue ( go to vwvortex.com to see the color, go to galleries, passat 1/dasher and there it is)
Interior:  Black ( all there, a couple of small tears/ dashboard- usual cracks)  still has the faux wood grain stuff, nothing missing
Transmission:  3spd Auto (no slips/shifts smooth)
Engine:  1.7 liter CIS injection (runs a bit rough when cold, then nice and smooth after warming up, but smokes some)

Still has all of the trim, glass is good, car runs/drives fair.  I drove it home, and putter around short distances in it every now and then.  the car has less than 80,000 original miles on it and I bought it from an elderly lady in Soddy Daisy who bought the car when it was approx. 1 year old from what is now Mtn View Ford.  It's slow, not very cute, and floats around like a sea vessel on the road (no lowered race springs here, just old oil filled shocks, thank you.  Not much to look at, but a 99% intact example of a car that never sold too well in the states.
I've got about $350.00 in it.  If I can get my money back, I'll be happy.  I was going to part it out, but decided to sell it whole as it does still run/drive.  Call me if you are interested, the car could be driven, but one of the rear brake drums binds sometimes, and it would be best to tow the car. Needs to go ASAP.

Thanks,
Rick...

No planter . . . it's coming to the "triangle."  I figure with as many Dasher parts David has bounced off my head, if I can gather them all up I'll be able to keep it on the road forever.

Hey Rick . . . just in case you're wondering where it went, I picked up the Dasher Saturday.  I got it home with no problems.  The brake didn't seem to be locked, so I just drove it.  I stopped at the service station down the street and aired the tires up and eased down to AutoZone on Hixson Pike, bought a lug wrench and move two bolts from the left over to the right.  I had to get on the brakes pretty hard about half way home and the left rear started scubbing some, but it stopped after about a mile.  Considering the worn out (more like non-existing) shocks, it actually drove pretty good!  It held it's own on the interstate . . . I just went about 5 miles on the interstate though . . . I didn't want to push my luck too far.

I found a new set of front struts cheap on thesamba.com and have them on the way.  I've also found 2 "beauty" rings and hub caps for it.  A set of tires, shocks and struts, a coat of paint and a little brake work and it will be good as new . . . although from what the Godfather says, that might not be saying much!

I was pretty certain you'd dropped by.  I've actually had a sign in the front window that said " Free to a good...uh...any home, take me please..."
But, alas, nothing.  Glad you liked the ride home, as promised, she floats around because of the worn shocks.  The girls used to like sitting on the hood and I would start pushing the front end up and down while they would try to hang on.  What can I say, Redneck fun times had by all...What? something on tv?  Play with Barbies?  No, let's go sit on the hood of Daddy's old car in the driveway......Simple pleasures.
I figure if I set their maintenance levels low now, some guy will thank me later.
