« on: April 12, 2011, 04:38:31 PM »
1973 VW Thing.  I have had this Thing since about 1990.  Drives great.  Needs minor body work.  Floor pans need attention.  Needs new top, but I still have the top frame and side curtains.  Roll cage.  Gas heater blows air but no heat.   New windshield frame (top and bottom).  Wiper moter needs to be rebuilt.  asking $3500  new price $3000 obo

I might trade you the Jap Beetle for it, plus some cash on your side.
$'s would depend on just how great of shape the Thing is in.
KC
The Jap beetle is a 1971 1302 that was shipped to Japan and is a Right Hand Drive (RHD),  It has a 1300 DP that makes 50HP and has 8:1 compression domed factory pistons and runs a 32 PICT 3 carb.
It is hard to find a 1302 (non US spec) any where, but there are VERY few that were ever sold in Japan.
It has it's original non rusty floor pans and a rare RHD '70's Gene Berg Shift kit in it.
Let me know if your interested.
My bug rolled off the assembly line on 20 Aug 1970.  The very 1st 1302 came off on 11 Aug 1970, and the 1300 and the 1302 has sequential serial numbers untill 1973 so the best guess I have been given is that my bug is one of the first 100 or so 1302's ever made.
I have all the original import papers (yes it's a Legit RHD) not a conversion.
I also have the original dealers packet and title in Japanese.
I have an all new lowered front end and a set of rare Turtle back wheels on the car.

Wife owned a 73 thing when we got married. we drove that thing ever where. We loved it. had kids and had to git rid of it. Have missed it every day sense. I now have a 76 day that I'm restoring. Wish you luck on the sale.
