My slip of the typing finger, i know it is a buss but my wife said the word van as i was typing so i typed it. Good to hear Kc that yours is a 76 also so now i know who too call when i have a question on this " Project ".  I already have the main thing i needed for starting the work. " Elbow Grease "......... .

As for you building the engine for it Scott if you did it would be all new stuff from the ground up. We will talk about it....... Now all i need to do is do an inventory of what is in the BUSS and see what do need......

Bless your heart.  Let the Games begin. Bus, Van and a few other names that I can't put on here. I hope the wiring is the same. VW was notorious for changing wiring and other stuff in the middle of the year and not telling anybody at the dealer until we ran into a problem. We would call VW and ask and they would say: O' Did we forget to send you a updated bulletin ??? Sorry
I hope you get the thing back on the road.   Good Luck

Hey Godfather the wiring harness is intact and all if not most of the parts are there for the dash. All i need to do is reconnect it all and reinstall it. Today is set for the cleaning and cleaning etc on the outside and inside. i have all the parts in a box and the panels that were not installed out to clean and reinstall after the sanding and painting on the inside.

I will need to find a back seat for it eventually if any one knows where i can get one cheap. I guess all the bus owners here will become my " good friends " as i do this.

if i get out ( done ) with this for 3k to 4k over the next couple years i will be happy. The biggest money of course will be the engine and trans i will need when i get there. The rest i will be able to do myself ( hopefully ) with some questions here and there. The wife wants to chainge it to an automatic so she can drive it when it is up and running so i know that will cost me more for a different transaxel etc. We will see about that......

I've got a back seat seat you can have . . . I don't know where it is, but if I can find it, you can have it.  Needs new padding and covers, but the frame and springs were OK when I took it out.

That would be great Zen. I can pad it and recover it like i did my bugs back seat. I just need to figure out if i can lay down the seats in my eclipse or aveo and get it in either to bring it back here. I will try and put a few pics of the " cleaned up Bus once i figure out to make them smaller and attach them to a post correctly.

A whole lot cheaper to teach Mama how to drive a 4 speed. I don't think you can use a type-1 engine on a auto. trans. due to the torque converter drive plate being bolted to the crankshaft with 6 bolts and not with the one big gland nut( type-1).

i have some rear seat belts, and i belive i have some extra seat hold down hard ware if ya need them... ill have to dig through the box of goodies.  the belts are out of a 72 if they will fit.  guy i got my 72 parts might still have the tranny if your intrested not sure what kinda shape its in, but seems like the gearing would be better for a type 1 convert.

thanks swaggin i will check and see if the eat belts will fit my 76. I will also get back to you on the seat hardware and the tranny when i am ready to get started on those areas. I plan on spending the weekend cleaning the crud off the floor inside and preping and primering it to get it ready for the flooring i am going to put in it. also going to try and fix any pannels that are comming apart etc. I need to find some good places to get bus parts and what bus type i should look for when on samba etc websights.
