VW Turkey Run St. Augustine, FL

There was a show in Saint Augustine, Florida this past Saturday.  I had seen info about it posted a time or two on shoptalkforums.com, but didn't realize that I would be in Jacksonville, FL (about a half hour north of the show) on the 20th until after we got to Tampa.  Anyway, I ended up going to the show and entering Homer.  They had free registration and it was only $10 for the swap meet.  They had lots of cool door prizes and a pretty good "goody bag" for the first 80 VWs.  Homer was #54 . . . I never asked, but I would guess they ended up with somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 - 80 cars.  There was a very good selection of VWs from Oval Window Beetles to New Beetle Convertibles, Split Window Single Cabs to a Phaton (not sure of the spelling . . . but you know what I'm talking about . . . that new $50,000+ luxury sedan).  They even had a free T-shirt in the goody bag.  There were several folks cleaning out their garages . . . if you were in the market for a $75 Dune Buggy Body or a $250 rail buggy you would have found them in the swap meet . . . and you probably could have gotten them even cheaper as almost everything that was marked was marked "or best offer."

I left a couple of hours before it ended . . . It was my brother-in-law's 50th birthday and we were going into old Saint Augustine for lunch and then heading back to his house for cake and presents.  I hate I missed the end of the show and didn't get to meet more of the Jacksonville club's people, but I've always wanted to see the old fort at St. Augustine, so I didn't complain.

If they have the show the weekend after Bug Jam next year and you can spend a week in Florida, you ought to try to make it.  I know I will. :D
