Bug Blast a success

« Reply #17 on: June 09, 2007, 09:27:04 PM »
Just got home from the Stevenson Bug Blast. A bunch of Volks Folks met this morning at the Cracker Barrel in Tiftonia for a good meal and fellowship before heading to the show. It has been a couple of years since my last visit to the show, and it is growing. There were at least double the show cars since the last time I was visited. Cindy and I participated in the afternoon cruise through the country side before heading back home. There was quite a stirng of VW's cruising down the road. Cindy and I along with David and Linda Johnston, Scott Swafford and son, Rick Swafford and daughters, William Ellis and Alan Humphreys just went down for the day. The Volks Folks there for the weekend were Anthony, Travis, Moose, Kyle, Matt and Kim. And Fielding (Dr. Fieldinggood) was the MC for the show. It was fun and the Volks Folks made a decent showing. Hope even more of us can go next year.

Hey ! We had a great time at Bug Blast and a large THANKS to Lamar, Cindy and Alan for letting us share their "Blue Thinges" with us. We tied them together and came up with a 10'x20' canopy. We did have some cloud cover once in a while that help cool us down a bit. Watched a bunch of Dudes trying to do their best to destroy their Rails and Bugs in the "burn out" demo. Lots of Wheel hop and 7,000+ rpm attempts.  Grasshopper and I just cringed waiting for the explosions. They didn't break !  Bubba showed them how to do it with his rock crawler one wheel at a time, two front wheels at a time, two rear wheels at a time and never moved a foot forward. Just think about it ,Spinning a tire thats taller than me with a 36 hp Bug engine(yeah right ) Then Bubba runs one front tire up a large tree trunk about 10'  Show Off !
Had fun watching the Swafford Twins dicing for 1st & 2nd down Ala 72 but they had to back off. To many cigarette butts and road Kill on the road I guess , and Lamar finaly blew the Twins off.
Linda and I will be glad when we can drive one of our projects to some shows. We are working on it.

We wuz only playin,I think I could take em.  It was a fun little show,I scored me some junk and some proper door panels. The cruise was more the Alabama beer run than a cruise but oh well. Me and Rick have stickers that read honk if somethin falls off, funny thing I cant anymore cause my horn fell off on the cruise Im sure the super custom vert behind me pooped himself when it came flyin at him with the remains of an asphalt patch. Sorry guy. But good times non the less.I think Rick has pics of me tightening me spindle nuts on the side of the road with vise grips.

Ah, Properly tighten spindle nuts is a good thing   Isn't it kind of strange to drive a distance to a show and buy all your used up junk from your fellow club member ?   Im' begining to belive thats how it works.
Hope you Guys made it back home OK

:(   I got roped into driving my mom to a family reunion Saturday.  I had planned to head over there Saturday night, but Joy kept reminding me that I went to Effingham last weekend instead of working on the bathroom.  I don't mind camping in Homer for the weekend . . . but I wouldn't want to live there.  Hopefully I'll be through with all this cabin renovation stuff soon and I can get back to the important stuff . . . hangin' out at VW shows.

Ah !!  The infamous " you could have fixed the bathroom"  excuse. I would have figured you have known the trick for that by now. You are supposed to take your S.O. with you on trips like that. Then the both of you could agree that  Bears really do "do it" in the woods

funny, my S.O. stayed home so he could get things done around the house... and what he got done could have been handled in an hour or so... his time was mostly spent playing video games
