Last year several of us camped at Tallulah Gorge State Park on Saturday night before the show, then broke up camp, met up with the Sunday morning caravan and drove the 15 or so miles down to the fairgrounds.  Do we want to plan something like that this year?  Tallulah Gorge is a nice campground with water and electricity at each campsite and nice bathrooms and showers.

I got wind of a couple of Southeastern Club members who were planning on camping at the fairgrounds, so I contacted Tony Fulbright to see if on-site camping was available (their web site doesn't mention it) and this is the response I got:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Zen,
You and the rest are very welcome to camp at the show site. We don't advertise it because there's no showers and not a whole lot of camping space.  But...we would be glad to have you guys camp out there. A lot of others will be camping over night, so come on down and join in.
Thanks for supporting the show,
Tony Fulbright...SE/BUGFAIR
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

So, would you rather have water/electricity/showers, or wake up on the show grounds and be there when the swap meet vendors start unpacking?

Since it's just one night, I say let's take Tony up on his offer and camp at the fairgounds.

I agree, and it would save us $ too.  I believe if I get to go I will camp on the grounds.

I also think it is a good idea and will camp there at the showgrounds.  No need to travel on the morning of the show.  Great idea!

I'm with youse guys unless Miss Dee says different. If we can camp there, why not? Would we be able to build a fire for cooking? Probably not. It is probably like Camp Jordan. We've got one meeting and about 5 weeks to decide.

We are going to camp at the fairgrounds on Saturday night.  I want to go with the caravan, if there is one.  Which way would we go?  If we go through the Ocoee on Hwy. 64, which is the way we went last year, then we want to leave early and go to the Blue Holes and do a little swimming before the trip.
So what I propose is that if the caravan does go through Ocoee, I would like to meet up with it when it travels through going to Murphy, NC.  Of course, if anyone else wants to go swimming, you are more than welcome to come too.
Let's just come up with a time that the caravan will leave so I can have an approximate time frame to be ready to meet said caravan.

Have I made any sense? ???

I hope to make it to the fairgrounds Saturday afternoon/evening and camp there, but I doubt I'll be able to caravan with y'all.  We have to attend a family day at Southern Poly Tech on Saturday for Justin's Marine Reserves.  We'll probably leave from there and take I-575 (?) up to GA 20, and head over to Gainsville and from there take GA 369 (not real sure if that's the right # either) up towards Talulah Gourge.  We have to stop at my mother-in-laws in Clarksville . . . Joy will probably spend the night there (something about an air conditioner and shower) and I'll head over to the fairgrounds.

If anyone is planing to leave Saturday afternoon and take the "southern route" let me know . . . maybe we can hook up somewhere along the way and caravan at least part of the way.

We are planning on going down Sunday morning.  If anyone wants to caravan down with us let us know.  We'll probably need to leave early like about 7:30.   :)

I believe that it is free.  I'm sure we still have to pay the fee to get in on Sunday, but there was no mention of having to pay to camp.  But I could be wrong... ???

Anthony has something band related on Saturday, so we definitly won't be able to camp, and as of right now, we probably won't make it for the day on Sunday either. :(

Everyone have fun and bring back lots of pix.

Is it free to camp at the fairgrounds????

I'm 99.9% sure that it's free camping . . . the email I got from Tony Fulbright said:
"You and the rest are very welcome to camp at the show site. We don't advertise it because there's no showers and not a whole lot of camping space.  But...we would be glad to have you guys camp out there. A lot of others will be camping over night, so come on down and join in."
I'm sure he would have mentioned $$ if it wasn't free.

It's looking less and less like I'm going to have the bus running by Sunday.  I have to pick up my mother-in-law in Clarksville and bring her home with us Sunday . . . we won't be able fit in a bug so now I doubt I'll even be in a VW . . . and I'll also probably not be camping.   :(   Oh well, at least I'm still getting to attend the show . . . and there's always next year!
