Southeastern Bug-Fair #8

« on: August 11, 2005, 08:58:13 PM »
Southeastern Bug-Fair #8 is coming up on Sunday September 11, 2005.  This event is held at the Stephens County Fairgrounds just outside the town of Toccoa, GA.  It's always a good show and a great swap meet!

More info can be found at http://www.sevwc.com/bugfair.htm.

I saw this posted on Shoptalkforums and thought I'd pass it along:

Just some info on the show on Sept. 11

Anyone looking for really rare stuff...Thomas Claussen from Germany will return to the show this year after missing the last few shows. He's got some really rare VW stuff, so check him out at the show. Again as always our sponsors ask if you need anything in particular, call them ahead of time and they will deliver it at the show.

See you all at the show,
Tony

If you want to make a weekend out of it, I suggest camping at Tallulah Gorge State Park on Saturday -- http://gastateparks.org/net/go/parks.aspx?show=parks&go=1&s=0.0.1.5

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Tallulah Gorge was one of the top tourist destinations in the Southeastern US.  After the dam was built in 1913 it's popularity began to drop and after a fire in 1921 destroyed much of the town of Tallulah Falls, little was rebuilt.  I saw on the web site where they are going to have the dam opened up that weekend to give a glimps back to the way the river gorge looked before it was dammed up.

It is a State Park, but the Campground is run by GA Power so you won't be able to make reservations online through the State Park System.  For reservations call (706) 754-7970.  In the past, the campground hasn't been anywhere near capacity on the weekend of this show, but you never know.  If you know you want to camp there, I'd go ahead and reserve a spot.  The campground is about 18 miles from the show.

If you want free camping, contact Tony Fullbright and see if they are offering free camping at the fairgrounds again this year.  In the past, they have offered (but not advertised) free camping at the fairgrounds on Saturday night . . . there is no shade, no water or electricity, there are bathrooms, but no showers and camping is in what is normally the horse arena (so watch where you step and where you pitch your tent!) . . . but, it's free and you wake up at the show.  Again, check with Tony (706-886-0228 / tasinga@alltel.net ) to see if you can camp there this year.

I had planned on selling some of my unused Type 3 stuff at this show.  In the past, the vendor's fee was only $5, but this year, the fee is $25 for used parts.  I will suck it up and sell anyway, so I will be staying the night there.  Last year, Kevin and I were able to get up against the trees at the back/side of the showgrounds...far away from the horse pit.

I just got off the phone with Tony, and he says that he prefers you to come in on Saturday afternoon/evening because it just makes the excitement of Sunday morning less hectic for him and his volunteers.  So, there will be free camping on Saturday night for those who wish to subject themselves to no amenities except for a bathroom.

Tallulah Gorge is a MUCH nicer place to camp . . . but there is a lot to be said for waking up and not having to break camp to go to the show.

I have to agree on all counts.  I'm just planning to sell, so that's why I would rather be there already come Sunday morning. :)

Maybe.  Depends on if I have my plumbing problems straightened out by Saturday evening.   ](*,)

Kevin and I are moving out around 1pm.  Most likely meeting in Ooltewah and going through Ocoee, from Ranger down to Blairsville, over to Clayton, and then down to Toccoa.
See y'all there!
