shameless plug for my new shop and a vw party!!

« on: June 23, 2008, 08:42:39 PM »
Hey everyone I just wanted to invite you to a VW party and a grand opening of my shop!  In the middle of Aug.-early sept. My shop will be up and going.  "R&M automotive repair" will be located at the old "NU 2 U" car lot on Hwy 58 in Harrison across the street from the Harrison post office.  I will be VW friendly...not specializing ,but not afraid of them.  I am a ASE certified Master Tech. and have been working in this field since 1989  I WILL have the ever elusive wide five wheel balancer adapter and for all those that want to have their ACVW's wheels balanced on the grand opening it will be done for $10 for 4....wide 5 or not(unless tape wieghts are required)!  Also oil changes will be CHEAP for ACVW's!  Anyone with a Corvair? Bring that down too!  We will be having hotdogs, hamburgers, and drinks as well!  We have a large lot and can hold a ton of cars!!!  What do you think?  Suggestions?  I will be listing the exact date in a week or so.

Thanks.
Rick.

I won't be stocking any specific tire size  at first, I have a number of used tires that will be for sale including a few 165/15, a pair of 195's, 205's and maybe a pair of 215's that alot of the VW crowd like.  All the tires I have I bought and used myself or took off vehicles myself and know they are sound and good.  In the future I would like to stock some new 165,145,and 135 size tires for both the VW community and the front runner guy's, but that will have to wait till business is up and going.  All the tires I have now will be CHEAP!!  They all have good tread , but I'm not looking to make a pile of money from them.  Most will be in the $10-20 range each just to move them.  I have a variety of other sizes in pairs and complete sets that will go for the same price.  The CHEAP oil changes for ACVW's will start at $15 for all non-filtered engines.  Price will depend on what type of oil is used, basically there will not be any labor or oil disposal fees charged for the oil changes that day.   \:D/

What kind of oil do you all want for your cars?  Let me know what weight and brand if any, that you like to use and would like me to get for the opening.  I will have a good amount of 10w-30,10w-40, and 20w-50 on hand, probably mostly ProLine (Pepboys brand) but don't have any problem getting other brands and weights.  I have been using  Castrol 4t 20w-50 4stroke motorcycle oil in mine after reading till my eyes went numb about oil choices on the Samba. So whatever your poison is let me know. :D

Hey Rick,  A large amount of air cooled VW owners seem to latch on to Castrol GTX 20w50.  Its been that way as long as I can remember.  Some folks are starting to lean toward synthetics. Good stuff but I'm not sure that I can justify the cost difference.

I don't know what the rest of the "water-cooled Brats" use, but I use (OK, when it was running I used) 20w50 in my Dasher.  I use it in my bus and bugs, in my S-10 and anything else that I take out on the road.  I use non-detergent 30w in my push mower . . . that's about the only engine I don't use 20w50 in.  Castrol is my brand of choice, but sometimes I use Havoline if I need to save a dime or two.  If I have an engine that is leaking a quart or two a week (I've had a few of those   ) I'll just use whatever brand is the cheapest until I can get the leak fixed.  8)
