Rockingham Show and Drag Races - August 1st

« on: July 22, 2004, 08:30:08 AM »
The Rockingham Volkswagen Show, Swap Meet and Drag Races will be held August 1st, 2004 in Marston, NC. This is a Sunday only show.

According to their web site, camping is available. Marston, according to Mapquest is 419 miles away with a driving time of 7hrs 30min. It should be a beautiful drive. The down side is it is the same weekend as the High Country Bus Festival.

I've never seen Volkswagen only drag races and I think Dee and I will go there instead of High Country. We are planning on leaving Saturday morning and coming back Monday. If anyone wants to go along, let me know. Richard and Gloria have already said they will be going along.

So...I don't have to worry about saving you a spot then?
Hope you have fun.  I've seen some VW drag racing and it is pretty neat...but I wouldn't miss HCBF for the world!

I wish we could do it, but we'd have to head home early Sunday, and we'd spend more time driving than at the show.  Maybe we can make it next year.  Sorry!

I wish I could post as good a report on the Rockingham event as Cindy did on High Country. I guess I could make up a bunch of sugar and spice but...............it would be a lie.

There were only about 15 vendors there, 5 new parts vendors, 3 or 4 selling either t-shirts and hats or toys and the rest were used parts vendors .

The promoters started the time trials late for the drag racing and we only got to see one round of time trials before torential rains set in. We left at 1pm and did I mention the entry fee was $15 per person? But, we knew that going in.

Needless to say, they will not get any of my money next year. I have gone to my first and last "VWs at the Rock"!

Sorry you didn't have as much fun as we did.  Who all went?  Did anyone go to Montgomery?

The trip to the rock was the Strout's, Bardas clan and us. I don't think anyone ended up going to Montgomery unless Anthony and Misty made it.

I think Anthony was going to Montgomery until I bailed out on him.  If I had it to do over again, I would probably have went to Montgomery and let Joe's Recycling go ahead and crush the bus I bought.    :p

It's a sickness.   :O

I talked to Andy yesterday and he had nothing but praises for Rockingham but he spent all of his time in the pits with the drag cars and drivers. I think he thought he had died and gone to heaven. I thought we had died and gone to ####.  LOL
