Oktoberfest?

« on: September 22, 2006, 02:08:45 PM »
The only thing I can find is that there is NO oktoberfest this year. :(    Does anyone know for sure?  I can't find it on any of the Chattanooga calendars.

WHAT  ??   No FEST ?    I hope you are wrong , but if not I'm not susprised. After all this is Chattanooga and over the years this "Burg" has managed to screw up everything that started out being a sure fire winner. We better be thankful that our BPs are in East Ridge and not in good old Chattanooga.
I have a good friend who works for the city and he has said for years that " Never has so little been controlled by so many".

It's listed on the Chattanooga Market's calendar for October 15.  I e-mailed Herb the info but I don't know if he has checked with anyone about us bringing the cars down.  Maybe he'll find out something soon...

Last year (and previous years too, I assume) it was at the Cricket...er, aah...First Tennessee (or whoever has bought it this year) Pavillion in downtown Chattanooga, somewhere near that football stadium.

It was a festival celebrating mostly German stuff.  Bratwursts, Dachsunds, German beer, and with us there...German cars.  There were other things there as well, such as arts and crafts, kiddie games, American food and drink, etc.

All those who entered their cars for a small fee (donation) got a T-shirt.

There is something going on at the Chattanooga Market almost every Sunday of the year.  Octoberfest is the only one I've ever been to, but I've had fun every time I went.  I've entered Homer every year and walked off with the "Ugliest VW" award three years running.  Homer proudly displays his trophy from the 2004 event on his roof.  You can find some general info about the Chattanooga Market at http://www.chattanoogamarket.com.  There isn't much there about Octoberfest except the date.

Subject:  [Volks Folks] Oktoberfest October 15, 2006

Good Morning:

We would like to extend an invitation to the Volksfolks to display their vintage VW's at the 2006 Oktoberfest to be held at the Chattanooga Market at the 1st Tennessee pavilion on Sunday, October 15, 2006 from noon until 5:00pm.

As with last year there will be live Oompah bands, German folk dancing, German food and drink, Weenie Dog races, and kids games arts and crafts.

For the volks folks there will be goodie bags and judging with trophies going to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place vehicles.

Thanks very much for your consideration!

The outing yesterday was a lot of fun!!! There was a communication breakdown and we were out in the courtyard parking lot beside the pavillion but it was fine as the weather was beautiful. The food was simply delicious and all attending had a real good time. For you who missed it, you missed a great day. :D

I just went back through this entire post and realized that we were, in fact, contacted by OLPH.  I was thinking that Nick (can't remember his last name off-hand) with the Chattanooga Market was the only person I had exchanged emails with.  I looked through my old email and yes, I did reply to the email from OLPH telling them we would be there and I did recieve a reply back from them thanking us for participating.

What apparently happened is someone from OLPH saw on our web site the thread about SuperCruise and decided that we were going to participating in that instead of coming to Oktoberfest.  So . . . we ended up outside, with no goodie bags, no trophies.  I'm not sure that ending up outside was a bad thing.  Last year's goodie bags weren't much more than the bag (I think it had a sample of some Sticky Fingers BBQ Sause and maybe a couple of discount coupons to Sticky Fingers).  I like the trophies they have done in the past.  Even though I didn't have a VW there this year, I wish they had done the trophies just 'cause they are so cool . . . but as far as I know, no one was "mad" because of the lack of judging and trophies.  One positive side-effect of the communication breakdown is that it eliminated the entry fee.

Sooooo . . . like Herb said, if you missed it, you missed a great day!  Thanks to everyone who came out and spent the day with us!  I'm looking forward to next year!   8)

I saw Fielding on Channel 12 news at 11.  No mention of his VW, but underneath him, they had the words "Beer Expert".  What does it take to be an expert?

I might as well tell you why I missed this outing.  I was somewhere in between Wilkesboro and Winston-Salem, NC on a FMBC campout.  BRRR COLD! is all I can say about it.  Besides that, it was a small, casual, and very neighbor friendly campout.
