Is anyone planning on going to this? I think I'll be available that weekend and wouldn't mind going. Its $15 to show, $50 to vend in a 10x10. $25 for camping with hook-ups, $4 per person primitive camping.

It conflicts with SoWo and I won't be able to make it. However, the Knox Volks club made a tremendous showing at BP13. Practically one whole row of show cars was their club. This is their third year and they're trying to grow their show and would appreciate our support. I think we should return the favor.

Last year (and the year before) it was in July and the heat was almost unbearable. They've moved it up to May in hopes it'll be a little cooler.

Despite the heat, we had a great time last year and would love to go back. It's a fun show.

If I'm able, I'm going.  Last year I went to Huntsville on Saturday and Knoxville on Sunday.  Both show were great despite the heat, but I think I'll enjoy this one more this time with cooler weather and getting to spend 2 days there.   8)

And as a bonus, the Knoxville Pull-A-Part is only 2 or 3 miles away from the show and the lot is opened til 6 PM Saturday and Sunday.   8)

Lamar has registered us for the show.  My company picnic is on Saturday at Fall Creek Falls so I'm not sure if we are going to head there first and then go over to the show or just do the show for the weekend.   ???

Wow Russ, thanks for the shining endorsement. You guys really are awesome! I had never thought to use pull-a-part as an attraction for the show, but hey, why not. Last time I was out there they had a 73 Squareback. In any case, yes, by all means, come one come all. Next year we will iron out the kinks with the SoWo conflict (I really want to go to that show sometime).

I didn't realize how close Pull-A-Part was when I was there last year.  When i got home and looked at their inventory online, they had 4 or 5 air-cooled VWs on the lot and a couple of them had been there less than week.  I headed home about 4 on Sunday . . . 2 hours at Pull-A-Part would have been icing on the cake.  But the cake was great without icing, and I don't think Homer the Super Bus would have made the trip home if I had throw in a few more pounds of junk.   ;D

I just checked their inventory and the Knoxville Pull-A-Part is a little lean on VW's right now, but that is subject to change any day.  Today, they only show two air-cooled VWs on the lot, a 77 Bus and a 71 411. They also have 3 Jettas and a Cabriolet.   8)

I always try to make it up to pullapart, but I never seem to have enough time. One time when I lived up there, they had a beetle and I went to go check it out. Everything had already been stripped and all the sheetmetal was a waste. It wasn't worth the $1 to get in to see it.

I went to the one in Nashville and cut out a "small metal bracket" that was the majority of the left rocker (about 4-5 feet long and about a foot up and a foot in) or a 76 bus. They charged me like $5.80 for it! I was pretty happy. All the other areas I needed were dented or rusted. I broke the windsheild trying to remove it. I picked up a brake booster for $8. It was awesome

Wow a 411? Wonder when that got there. They've got the type3 listed as a Dasher. The bus is only good for sheetmetal now. We went out the day after it got there to see if it had an engine and somebody had beaten us there that morning and stripped it. I mean to the bone.

Good for sheetmetal, huh? Is it very rusty? Just in the typical places? Do I need to collect all my sawsall batteries up and go at it?!?!?!

VW - 411 - 1971 - Row 110 - On Yard Date 03/29/2011

But you never know what you'll find until you actually look.  I think I've seen a type 3 listed as a Dasher in one of the Atlanta yards as well.  Atlanta South had a '74 "Cabriolet" on their inventory list last fall . . . it was a Thing.  The picture below is an inventory tag off a Fastback a friend of my sent me from Birmingham's lot.  I bought a set of horns out of a 1950 Plymoth Special Deluxe and it didn't show up on their inventory until the next week.  So, no matter what their iventory list says, it's still an adventure . . . kind'a like taking a treasure map and hunting for the buried gold!  ;D

Anyway, back to the show . . . Is anyone planning on camping?

I want a 71 Touareg! I'd bet that would be sweet. As far as the bus was concerned, I don't remembering it being a rust bucket. That is not to say that it wasn't, its just that my memory recalls it being fairly solid. It was a camper, so there are no roof panels (though the fiberglass roof was still on it last time).

We (a bunch of KVMC people) will be camping. You can always hang out with us.
