Holiday Starlight Parade RESCHEDULED TO SUNDAY - PLEASE READ

« on: October 21, 2013, 08:53:08 AM »
This year, the Volks Folks will once again participate in the Holiday Starlight Parade in downtown Chattanooga. The event will be held on [strike]Saturday, December 14th[/strike] from 6-7 PM.

Due to weather, the parade has been postponed to Sunday, December 15th.

The parade begins at Market St at ML King, going north to 3rd St. Our group is number 36 and we are scheduled to be in the line-up at 4:00 PM. The line-up area begins at 12th and Market.

So that we can all arrive together, we are going to meet up in the parking lot of Coker Tire at 3:30 PM. Then at 4, we will arrive at the line-up area as a group and take our spot.

Alright, we've received confirmation on the parade, as well as line-up information. The parade is rain or shine, starts at 6:00 PM December 14th, and goes down Market Street. The line-up area begins at 12th and Market, and we are assigned #36 in the line-up.

Therefore, we need to report to the line-up area at 4:00 PM. I have a number sheet that I will print out, it goes on the passenger side of the first vehicle in our line-up. We are going to be right behind the EPB trucks this year.

Lamar and I decided it would be best for us to meet up in the parking lot at Coker Tire a little bit before so we can all arrive at the line-up together. What do you say we make it 3:30 at Coker? That should give everyone enough time to arrive and I think everyone knows where Coker is.

Here's some more information I received from the organizers via email. Remember that you must have lights to participate. It will also be televised so I will try to get a copy of that as well.

Thanks for sending an application for the Holiday Starlight Parade for December 14.  Below is the lineup for the parade next Saturday. Please find your name on the list, look at the number beside it and that is your place in the lineup.

TIMES TO REPORT     If you are # 1 - # 26 report to the lineup area at 3:15 and find your spot on the street
If you are # 27 - # 53 report to the lineup area at 4:00 and find your spot on the street
If you are a marching band, report to the lineup area at 5:00 and find your spot on the street

IF YOU DO NOT GET IN LINE IN TIME, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL BE IN THE PARADE.  Groups with animals may wait until 5:00 to bring the animals but their float MUST be in place in time to line up everyone behind you.

BANDS If you are a band director you will bring your buses to the line up area, drop your students then the buses will proceed to the outside, southbound lane of Broad Street between 3rd and 4th Streets and wait for the bands to finish the parade and load from there.

GENERATORS  Any entries using a generator to power their lights must have a GFCI, or a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter Receptacle. Your float will not be allowed in the parade without one of these.  Also, plastic bags must be used to cover any power strips or plugs, to protect from possible bad weather.

NOTE PARADE ROUTE CHANGE  The city has asked us to alter the parade route.  We will step off at MLKing and Market, go north on Market to 3rd Street, turn left on 3rd Street and disband on Broad and 3rd.  Entries will slowly drive back to the start of the parade and unload.  If  you want to go a different way you may, the parade is terminated at Broad and 3rd Street.  Any walkers, chaperones, etc. who go back to the start of the parade route SHOULD USE THE SIDEWALK after the parade disperses, do not walk in Broad Street.

REMEMBER THE PARADE IS RAIN OR SHINE.  IT WILL PROBABLY BE RAINING A LITTLE IN THE MORNING BUT WE WILL NOT CALL OFF THE PARADE SO PLEASE BE THERE AND BE ON TIME.

We will have your numbers for you at the line up but you may print your own from this attachment if you like.  Just change this Word document to your correct number and print it.  The number goes in the PASSENGER side window this year which is a change from previous years.

Thanks so much for joining us in this wonderful parade, thanks to Volkswagen Chattanooga for their ongoing support for it.  See you next Saturday!

Attention! The parade has been moved to Sunday, December 15th.

I received an email today from the parade organizers stating that due to the weather forecast on Saturday, they have moved it to this Sunday instead. Previously they had said the parade would go on rain or shine, but hopefully we will have better weather for Sunday.

We will keep our plans the same, meet at Coker at 3:30 and arrive to line up at 4:00 PM.

Looks like I will be there in a VW after all!  No, not Homer . . . Homer still isn't running, but, since the date changed, we will be able to make it.  We'll be in Franny's TDI Passat.

No Homer.  Homer doesn't run.  Homer hasn't ran in a long time.  Don't know exactly how long . . . wait, let me look at your signature . . . Homer hasn't ran in 742 Days.  That number will top 750 before it get's reset . . . but it won't reach 760.

Guess I spoke too soon.  Joy isn't feeling well.  I don't guess we'll make it.  Y'all have fun and we'll see you at the meeting/party tomorrow night.
