The description from their web site:

Quote
YES, WE'VE RENTED AN ISLAND!!!!

It's a Bug Show, a VW Camp out, a VW Reunion......
Call it what you want but basically it's a gathering of VW enthusiasts on an island in Tennessee just for the heck of it.
VW shows are fun but sometimes stressful. This is an opportunity for everyone to get together and enjoy a VW weekend without those stresses.
Come for a day or stay the weekend. For those who wish to camp, this is a great place. If you don't camp, you can still fish, swim, canoe, tube, eat, relax and take part in this event. Bring the Kids!! They'll love it.

STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW
No Reservations Needed. Though Advertised As June 11 & 12, You Can Come On Friday The 10th.
You'll Probably Get Your Tires Wet Driving Over To The Island.
Portable Toilets, No Showers, Just Bring A Bar Of Soap (you know).
Canoe Rentals & Shuttle Available Or Bring Your Own Float. Don't Forget A Fishing Rod (license - your choice).
There is A Pavilion With Tables, TV, Refrigerator, Grill, etc.
A Community Campfire Will Be Provided.
We Hear The Horseshoe Pit Gets Serious In The Evenings.
Bring Your Frisbees, Volleyballs, Hammocks, Swimsuits - You'll Finally Get To Use Them.
We'll Be Doing A Community Kitchen Saturday Evening So Bring Something To Share.
Kirk Fleta Will Be Performing In The Pavilion After Dinner. Buy His CDs - He Lives In A VW Bus.
There Is A Phone Available For Emergency & Local Calls (865-982-0793).
The Physical Address Is 4134 Cave Mill Road  Maryville, Tennessee.
One More Thing, As Cute As It Would Be To See All Those Colorful VWs Bobbing Down The  River, If A Huge Storm Comes Up And Flooding Is Predicted We'll Leave The Island.

PLEASE READ OUR LONG LIST OF RULES
Pets on leashes & clean up after them, that's it...
In fact, you'll have trouble finding anyone "in charge".
There won't be anyone at the registration desk cause there ain't no desk.
There won't be anyone assigning spaces cause we figure you already know how to park. We've seen you do it at our shows.
There won't be a security guard on patrol cause he didn't want to work that weekend.
You get the idea.

THE OTHER STUFF
We have to pay for the island. We tried to get it for free but couldn't get it worked out.
Therefore we must charge admission for this event:

$5 per vehicle (not $5 per person) per day if you don't camp.

$10 per vehicle (not $10 per person) per day if you do camp.

Yep, it's cheap and if it don't cover the costs, we'll manage.
You can't pay the girl at the gate, we don't have one. There'll be a box at the pavilion, just drop it in there.
Remember the ancient honor system?

Well, the rain came and went sporadically on Friday, with just one major downpour right after we set up camp.  After that, only a drizzle every now and then.  The sun was shining most of the time.  We all got some fishing, canoeing, swimming, and dam building done on Saturday.  The water in the river was cold to start with, but felt better the longer you stayed in.

The island itself was a beautiful place to camp.  It is not a campground; rather, it is a private island that rents out canoes, rafts, etc. and drives you upriver to let you drift or paddle back down to the island.

Check out the pictures I posted at
http://gallery.volksfolks.org/VWs-on-the-Island-2005.

I am ready to go back next year...it's already on my calendar.
