Doesn't look like the Barefeet will be there after all.  1/2 of the family doesn't feel too good.  Hope you all have fun and sorry to have missed it.  I was looking forward to tonight! :(

Herbie Movie at Coolidge Park

Several of us made it last night . . . Feilding drove Herbie, Lamar and Cindy drove their orange Super Beetle, Joy, her mom and myself met up with them at the old Sams store and cruised over to the park.  Shortly after we got there, Kyle and Betty made it in the Vanagonagon, then Kevin with his daughter and parents showed up in his Westy.  Not long before the movie started Eric and his girlfriend got there.

There was a pretty big crowd on hand and about the time they got the "pre-show" commercials going on the big screen (as in REALLY BIG screen) about 10 minutes of fireworks started up over next to the old bridge.  Just about the time Herbie was being impounded by the police, I saw Fielding heading off towards Herbie . . . and it turns out he had just got a phone call and his son was being taken to the hospital.  They think something was wrong with his appendix.  Has anyone heard anything from him today?

After Fielding and Herbie had to leave in such a hurry, I think all of us "old timers" realized it was passed our bedtimes and I think all of us left during the final race.

Gang, I'm really sorry I missed the outing but our neighbor is leaving for Iraq this coming Wednesday and we went to a going away party for him Saturday afternoon and early evening. I would not have been very good company after that. Several ghosts came to visit during and after the party. I'll do better next time.    :(

We really did have a good time.  It's really a good place to take the family to for a free evening of entertainment or there are several restaurants to choose from if you don't want to pack your own snacks.  We tried out the River Street Deli and Clumpies Ice Cream.  Yummm!!!  They have a really nice setup with the movie screen.  Might have given Zen some ideas for our own drive-in.

They did have a very nice setup, but from the angle we were watching it, our set-up has a better picture.  Theirs was a little on the dark side. It was kind of like watching a rear-projection big screen TV from an angle.  It's a nice bright, crisp picture from head-on, but gets darker as you move to the sides.  Their BIG advange was it was HUGH.  It must have been at least a 30 foot wide screen!  I was going to see if we could work out some kind of deal with First Things First, but the screen doesn't belong to them.  They pay a company out of Birmingham to run the whole show.  It cost about $3000 for them to come out, set up the screen and equipment and for the right to make a public showing of the movie.

If it cost $3000 a night to rent the screen and equipment they used, I guess the club buying a big screen is out of the question.   :O   Our current setup works fine . . . but if we could find a 50 foot by 50 foot sheet . . .  :D

By the way, has anyone heard from Feilding?

I talked to Fielding yesterday evening and Ben is just fine. He did NOT have appendix problems and I won't go into what problem he did have but everything came out OK. :;):

Hey gang! Sorry to keep everyone waiting but had to find out all the specifics. The Herbie movie was GREAT!!!! I had a really good time and Herbie enjoyed the attention that he got from the crowd. I hated to have to run but those things happen. We were at the hospital until 3:30 am. Ben has always had a digestive problem that we keep a tab on, and the hospital treated him for that, and checked the appendix. Yesterday his doctor called and told me that the lab called them and they found septabella pnuemonia in his urine. They explained that it is a viral organism, that he most likely picked up swimming in Kentucky, that is growing in his bladder. The long and short of it is that he has critters growing in his pee. They have prescibed heavy duty antibiotics and we will have him checked again when they are through.
