Mid America Motorworks Funfest for Air-cooled VW's
June 3 & 4, 2006, Effingham, IL

Funfest for Air-cooled VW's is a "customer appreciation party" hosted every year by Mid America Motorworks as a way of saying "thank you" to our Air-cooled Volkswagen customers. Funfest for Air-cooled VW's is held at Mid America Motorworks campus in Effingham, IL. It is one of the largest VW gatherings in the country. More than 1,000 VW's and 8,000 Air-Cooled Volkswagen enthusiasts, including a special Herbie display, participated in Funfest 2005.

Enthusiasts can register in advance for Funfest for Air-cooled VW's 2006, June 3 and 4, 2006, online at http://www.mamotorworks.com or by calling 800-500-1500. Everyone attending Funfest will receive free admission, free T-shirts, and a free poster (while supplies last).

:?: Zen, Is the club planning a trip to this show again this year. I checked out the show site about a month ago and would love to attend this show. We wanted to do the show in 2001 but was unable to make it. Hopefully the work situation here will be more stable by then and I could get time off. Thanks!!

We haven't really talked about it.  I've already got Homer the SuperBus registered.  I got sick a few days before the show last year and left Homer sitting on jack stands and a brand new engine sitting inside the garage while I rode up to Effingham sleeping in the back of a Mitsubishi Expo.  This year I gott'a let Homer go or he'll never forgive me.

I think the Keedys and Guthries are going again this year.  Anyone else?

We have been the past two years and this is a "show" not to miss. I'm hoping to be able to drive "Lucille" this year (with a little bit of luck). Unless something really bad happens, we will be leaving on Friday morning the 2nd? and coming back on Monday. Let's go ahead and start talking this up and decide where we will stay this year. :D

:D Sounds great to me Herb. I hope things have stabilized at work by then and I can get away. I only wanted to do 2 shows this year and this is one of them. The other one occurs this month in Chattanooga  :(  :(  :(
After talking to you last year about the show, I knew it would be a great one to go to. I have read about it over the years and wanted to do it in 2001 but was not able to. I will leave the decision of where to stay up to those of you who have gone before.

It usually takes us about 6 hours to drive up and that includes all the stops added to driving air cooled VWs and not driving like our tail feathers are on fire. :D

I got my registration papers in the mail today!  If you haven't registered yet, you need to do so TODAY!  Also, if you are planning on staying in a motel near the show grounds, you need to make your reservations last week.  OK, you can't make them last week, so you better do that today as well.  I think several folks have reservations at a Holiday Inn Express but they may already be full.  I'm going to be strapped for cash, so I'll be camping on the show grounds.  The only "problem" with that is there is no shade and no showers . . . so I might not have many friends by the time the weekend is over!

Yea, 65dunebuggy, there is usually a bunch of us go down each year to the Bug Jam near Tampa. I didn't get to go last year but that was the first year I had missed since 1999. We always have a great time down there and the weather is great. Especially when you leave freezing temps and it is climbing into the 80s by the time you hit the Ga, FL state line.

Herb it sounds like fun.I would like to make that one in a year from now.Don't think it will be this year. I wish these gas prices would go down.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed on the gas price thing. You can't convince me the oil companies aren't price gouging. And then there is the rumor about Citgo Oil Co. being owned by Venezuela and them wanting to "overthrow" us.
