Did the rain get over to the east coast and wash out the race?  Hopefully it didn't.  If you did get to race, how did it go?

Hopefully I can venture down to your next race at Road Atlanta . . . I can't wait to see the new RED hot Vee in action.   8)

My good friends Art and Ruth invited me to go along with them to Savannah this weekend to crew at the races. I had never been to races like these before - and it was a blast! Anthony was kind enough to let me help him with some of the more minor tasks in prepping his new Vee for qualifying and racing on both days - the Vee was the only car out there that I could look at the engine and know what I was looking at! I'm sure Anthony will jump on here and tell more about the race itself but I can tell you that watching the field of Formula Vees come careening around and through the curves at high speeds was just too-o-o cool! 8)
As for the weather -- it rained some Saturday and by the time the Vees took the track it had slacked off quite a bit but the track was still wet. Sunday was a different matter. The officials shortened all the races from 15 laps to 10 and all six groups were done racing before any rain hit. Most of us were on the road home by the time it started raining.
If you've never been to a SCCA racing event I highly urge you to go to one. Road Atlanta is in a couple of weeks.
I also met a lot of Anthony's compadres in the local Chattanooga Region SCCA club and they reminded me of the Volksfolks as a group - very warm and friendly and eager to talk about their hobby for as long as you'll listen.

First, a big thank you to Charlton, Misty, Art, Ruthie, Village Volkswagen, and everyone who helped!
This is my first time at the track and I got along with it pretty well. By Sunday I had dropped my lap times by 2 seconds over Saturday. The bad news is I brought the wrong gearbox after hearing conflicting info. So I had the short gear while 4 other drivers had the long box. I could run with them in the turns, but they pulled away in the loooong straightaway while I ran out of gear 1/3 of the way down!
Saturday's race was at the end of the rain. We all went with rain tires and by lap 10 the track was drying and I was getting loose and wishing for slicks. Until then I was running with the leaders and up to 4th from 6th on the grid, and I finished in 4th. I couldn't see anything but spray. It felt like the race would never end!
Sunday we could run flat out and that's where the gearing really came into play. I qualified and finished 5th.
The car's still got some improvements left. My new shocks arrived 1/2 inch too short, so they went back after the race.
Everythings wet!
I'm looking forward to Road Atlanta!
