Formula Vee (and more) at Road Atlanta

« on: February 12, 2006, 03:51:45 PM »
The Vee passed its annual safety inspection and is ready to race at Road Atlanta on Feb. 25-26 at Road Atlanta! Saturday is practice and qualifying plus 2 races (not Vees, though). Sunday begins with a 2-hour endurance race for production cars and the Vee race is right after lunch, followed by several other races. There are 8 race groups of every description of race car, so the track action is constant all day. I can get free crew passes for the first couple of people and after that there's a small admission charge that still gives you full paddock access.

New engine, new tires, aero improvments, weight loss (the car, not me) :(  This could be a winning weekend!

I bet Road Atlanta will be a few degrees cooler this time than it was in the middle of August when came down to cheer you on!    I'd love to come watch you race again, but I don't think I'll be able to this time.

We'll be there in spirit!  I feel a winning weekend coming on . . .  8)

Wish I could go but Atlanta's no longer a quick drive for me. Looking forward to seeing you at VIR though!

Bugz, look for us on May 13-14 for a double event. There is also one in March, but its a single, and I don't know if anyone's making the trip.

How often do Vees run at Road Atlanta?  Is this something new?  I just recently read an article in the VVWCA magazine that indicated that these races were only taking place in the Northeast and upper Midwest.  I'm glad to know that there may be other opportunities closer to home :D

whoever wrote the article didn't do any research cause they are run all over the country. I'm sure Anthony can tell you more, but I know they run in Savannah GA, Danville Va, Nashville TN, several places in Florida in addition to Lowes and Road Atlanta.

Miserable rain and 40 degree temps on Saturday, then sunny on Sunday for the race. Brian and Moose came down although I warned them it might not be much of a show. The weather kept a lot of drivers home in all the classes-I was the only Vee that showed up and they had to consolidate our run group with the "Formula Fast" cars-as in 40+MPH faster than me at the end of the straights! I still managed to finish ahead of a few of them and win my class, so, a win is a win! :D

Well, there was one floating around here for a while that I thought might have been a Zink C-4. It was sold to the guy who does the Hangin' Dawg campout (can someone help me with his name-it's on the tip of my tongue)

I had a Z-12 before this car, and I traded it to Art Thompson from here for a Vanagon Westy. He's planning on racing it this year.

So, do you have a body or parts that need a chassis?
