Dead of Winter Campout

« on: December 08, 2015, 10:46:30 AM »
Peach State Transporters will be holding its annual Dead of Winter Campout at Cloudland Canyon State Park in the northwest Georgia mountains on the weekend of February 5, 6, and 7.

Scenic hikes include a canyon rim trail, and a trail into the gorge featuring views of two waterfalls. Camp sites include water and electricity, so don't forget to bring a space heater. And, of course, firewood. Lots and lots of firewood.

Featuring a potluck supper on Saturday night.

Looks like I'll be going solo in the Vanagon, getting there Friday afternoon and leaving early Sunday. It'll be good hiking weather! Who's up for climbing some steps?

I am definitely going up Saturday morning and camping Saturday night!
What do I need to do make sure I get a space for Saturday?
Are the spaces assigned?
If not, should I just call the office and reserve anything on the mountain?
Is there a specific campsite area I should be requesting?

There are no specific campsites assigned, just call or go online to make a reservation and don't forget to mention their Facebook post above to receive 30% off. When you arrive, you just pick a vacant site and only the West Rim Loop is open this time of year so no worries about being separated like at the club campout.

The other option is that you could double up with someone and split the space, one year though the ranger tried to split up me and Eric, arguing that each bus counted as an RV and only one is allowed per site.

Sweet!
Thanks Russ!
I'll be sure to call them.
Also, big thanks to Nick and Seth for helping pull and re-install Butter's engine last night.
He seems to be running... for now!
I am feeling optimistic!  8)

Great campout! I was there along with Matthew, Anthony, Tiff and Money, some of our friends from Nashville and some new friends we met last month at the MLK trip last month. Good weather, good food, good people!
