On the second Saturday of each month this summer, like last, there is a cruise in from 5:00pm until 10:00pm on No. Hamilton Street in Dalton, GA. Each month the cars have become more numerous with a record number this last weekend due to the great weather. They come from all over for the event. Unfortunately there is a lack of presence of VW's. My '74 SunBug was only one of two VW's.
I talked to Lamar Sims who owns American Foreign Auto Parts, where I buy all my VW parts, and told him I would contact the Chattanooga VW club to consider coming down for the September event. He would stay open like the other stores and we could cluster outside his store on the north side of the Waugh Street overpass. The last show was so well attended that the cars were at his door step for the first time. There were six blocks of parked classic cars, down each side of the street, with two rows down the middle of the street. In fact at the south end of No.Hamilton Steet, the presence of motorcycles was also in record numbers, all clustered outside the local leather shop that now carries the equipment they like for their bikes. Each local club was there but no VW's.
You guys might consider making a great evening of it. Plenty of music, sightseers and on lookers along with many beautiful cars. No charge, just come with your cars and chairs, park just on the north side of the Waugh Street overpass, and enjoy the evening. Plenty of local eateries along the street and square/line dancing at the center of the show.
