I'm driving car 88! we had one mis calculation that resulted in 35 seconds over. The rest were close. The total for the day was 1 minute 1 second off. That puts us 19th out of 49 overall but they drop the two lowest scores. We had two really bad starts. On the second the car wouldn't start and we started 7 minutes late but caught up to 3 seconds fast by the first checkpoint. It's fun and I have made lots of illegal turns but oh well. A cop got suspicious of the erratic driving and stopped next to us at a time dump(a timed stop to get back on track). We blew him off and sped off. Somehow that worked out. There was a beautiful 79 super beetle one spot behind us and I have invited them to BP13. He drove his bus on the last Great Race. Gotta get to bed to rest up for tomorrow!

well after a quick lunch in Elijay, we headed up to Ducktown but not without doing some crazy timed turns that really screwed everyone up when the general public got in the way. Luckily there wasn't a checkpoint before we could hack a time off someone else at a gas stop. Then we worked back through hwy 64... At 35 mph dropping to 25 for the curves... That really pissed off the drivers. I would have loved to watch them as they approached the car a minute ahead of us after passing us on a double yellow. Lots of mad drivers.

three folks broke down and got picked up by the sweep trailer. We finished pretty well despite the time delay from a raft bus
near the ocoee stopping in front of us. We will get those 30 seconds back to give our daily route a total of 49.9 seconds off course. With our two worst legs dropped we are at 59.9 seconds on the weekend. I'm proud of that for a first time!

more to come!

Its all over. We did pretty well. After 3 full days of rallying, we finished with 1 minute 16 seconds off of a perfect race. That put us 19th overall and 2nd in our class. The first overall was 17 seconds for the entire weekend...over 15 check points. Which is an average of around 1 second off every checkpoint! We were proud since it was my first time rallying. Unfortunately, we didn't get a trophy for second because we ran in a 'fun' class instead of a  'for prize' class. Oh well.

The only other fun event for the weekend was when a couple heading to church up near Jasper, TN decided to stop on the outside of a left hand curve while we were sustaining an average speed of 25 mph and we took the inside of a blind curve to overtake them... well we didn't know that we were entering into a maze (where rally cars were all 1 minute apart and crossing paths everywhere). We met another rally car head-on on their side of the road in a blind curve, both going 25 mph. We locked up and got our times messed up. We felt bad but there wasn't much we could do other than wait for this old couple to get rolling again.

Hal's rat rod wasn't in the race, but he apparently just got hired at Honest Charley's shop.

Lining up for a restart after lunch. We had to hit the Elijay City Limits sign at 40 mph so everyone lined up. Some timed their approach from a known point to the sign so they could leave that many seconds early. This let them pass the sign, going 40 at the very second they were supposed to start. We knew how long it took us to get to 40 (about 5.5 seconds) So we left 5.5 seconds early to account for the time lost on acceleration. Thats the name of the game!
