Zen, we rode through the park yesterday afternoon to see how it looked overall. With all the rain and storms lately I did not want us to have any surprises upon arrival. The park is clean, lakes are full, a bit murky though (wonder why?), restrooms are clean, (thank goodness)the camp area is good. The paddle boats could use a good cleaning. Overall we would give the park a 8 on a scale of 10.
While we were out we decided to check out Fort Mountain State Park close to Chatsworth. We had passed the entrance to this park on a motorcycle ride we did back a couple of months ago. We fell in love with this place. It is up in the National Forest area off Ga 52, East of Chatsworth. This place is AWESOME!!! 3,712 acres, new restroom facilities thru the park, the comfort stations with showers are spotless, 70 campsites, swimming beach, miniature golf, trails to the old rock tower, the 885 ft rock wall, horseback riding, paddle & fishing boat rentals. The roads are fantastics,( we are bringing our motorcycles when we come) the campsites are more secluded and shady than Sloppy Floyd. For those that like to do some hiking, there are some fantastic trails to explore. The trails are well marked and color coded. We rated this place a 10. :thumbs-up: If the club decides on another camp out, this is definitely a place to come to. Not much farther from Chattanooga than Sloppy Floyd. Don't get it wrong, Sloppy Floyd is no dump, but this place is even better. While Josh & I were taking the trail to the stone tower, we came upon a doe and her fawn about 20-30 feet away. We stopped and looked at them for a few minutes and walked on. Not a site you will see too often in your lifetime. We plan on checking out various state parks and we will pass on the information to aid everyone in planning club and personal trips.
