We talked about it at the meeting and there was some interest in planning a caravan to CYW this year. Anyone up for that? Meet at the Bi-Lo in Ooltewah as usual?

I'm planning on driving the bus, entering it into the show, and camping this year.

When?  On Friday?  If I work, I might have to wait until after the kids get out of school after 4:30, or take them out early and leave around noon.  If I don't work, I'll just keep them out of school and go.

Taking them out is not so bad...I'll just teach them the finer things VW, and show them the learning qualities of a campfire, and call it school.

Well I think the date/time is still up in the air, and I'm flexible so let's start planning the caravan. Friday or Saturday would work for me.

I will have to wait till it gets closer to figure out if and when I can leave.  As of now I'm shooting for Friday after work around 5 or 6 ish.

I think Lamar and Cindy said they were wanting to meet Saturday morning to leave out.

We are planning to ride up Saturday for the day.  For those who would like to caravan up plan to meet up at the Ooltewah Bi-Lo parking lot and we'll leave at 7:30.   :)

BTW, they're just doing "top 75" this time rather than judging cars in individual classes.

No kidding!  It's a shame when it costs more to get to an event than it does to get in!

At CYW 27 they didn't have the plaques in time for the show, so they had to give everybody vouchers.  I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Well here's what the AVWA had to say about it on The Samba:
Quote

Cost of trophies was not a consideration. In fact, I think, since we added some "special" awards, the cost is a little more.
We've been "picking your VWs apart" while judging for a lot of years now.
When the show was over you knew exactly, by seeing your score card, what we found.
This form of judging required the vehicle owner to work his or her butt off all weekend to always be ready for judging.
With this new format, we can eliminate most of that stress and the show can be more relaxing for everyone.
Now instead of having a panic attack about a blade of grass or a fly speck on your VW, don't worry about it. We know what's under there & you'll be forgiven.
...
We always toted extra trophies to storage after the show. We did the Knoxville show as a top 75 & only had one left over because someone had to leave early.
By doing it this way, we give out a lot more trophies than before.
In fact we had people taking trophies home who had never gotten one before.
We live in what is considered the car show capital and some are the largest of their kind. Almost all are top 20 to top 50 but none that I can think of are top 75.
I think Southeastern Bug Fair VW show in Georgia was top 40 and a successful show.
We decided to go with top 75 so more could have a chance at winning something.

I hope this helps explain the change.
Just bring Your VW to the show, relax, have fun and don't worry if you don't get it washed in time.
We'll make sure the trophy(s) you take home will be just as special as before.
You just won't be as tired & stressed as before.

Rick and I are thinking about heading there this year. This will be our first. Can we take 4-wheelers? Anyone share some inside information? Do the camp grounds have hookups? Will I have fun because it's all about fun :D
