Buses on the River

« on: August 06, 2005, 01:11:25 AM »
The Buses on the River campout will be held the weekend of August 19th - 21st.  The campout alongside the Nolichucky River, at the Nolichucky Gorge Campground in Erwin, TN. It is positioned within one of the deepest gorges in the entire Southeast, and has great water accessibility, not to mention literally bordering the National Forest and the Appalachian Trail. All beverages and all dogs (who play well with others) are WELCOME within the campground! At only an hour's drive from Asheville and just 2 hours from Knoxville, it makes for the PERFECT TENNESSEE camping experience!

Possibly. It's hard to tell what I'll feel like after the first week of school and Misty has to work. It is a cool event and a nice drive. I gotta get in the water this year if I go! 8)

Does anyone know if you can come into the campground at anytime of the night, or do you have to be there before a certian time?   :-k

It's going to be pretty late when we get there and I want to make sure we can get in.  The I looked on the campground web site and the FMBC site and didn't see a closing time for the campground listed in either place.

I seem to remember some folks pulling in pretty late last time. I couldn't say for sure, though. The folks in the office were pretty cool, though. I bet they wouldn't give you a hassle.

It was a good campout this year as well!  The Wilsons, myself (with Talia and Trey), Anthony, and Kyle's brother Trevor (with his son) left out of Ooltewah around 5pm on Friday.  The trip was a long, hot one, with only one mishap.  Trevor lost some tread on a tire, but didn't get a flat.  He put on his spare (not much better than the one he took off!) and we continued.
We pulled into the campground around 9pm or so.  The owners of the campground are notorious for being camp "nazis", and they came running out when we pulled up to enforce the registration law (as if we were going to try and sneak 4 buses and a Jetta into the campground).  We got one of the last available spots to fit our needs and set up.
Saturday, we ate some of the Full Moon Bus Club's famous breakfast burritos.  These are very, very good, by the way.  In the afternoon, we took a refreshing dip in the river.  Even though the water was really cold, it felt very good because the weather was very hot.
Of course, everyone who registered got a door prize.  I was one of the lucky ones who won BEER.  I do like beer, but I'm not much of a beer drinker, so I traded with Anthony, who had a T-shirt and Westfalia stickers.  Enjoy the beer, Anthony!  Later in the evening, we had cake and ice cream to celebrate Kelsey Wilson's 7th birthday.  I don't know what else happened Saturday night...I fell asleep early trying to get Trey to fall asleep.  I did wake up around 2am on Sunday...but that was too late to enjoy anyone's company.
Sunday came and we cooked our own version of breakfast burritos, packed up, and made the journey home.
I did take some pictures, but I haven't uploaded them to my computer.  I will post them soon.

Not being one to incriminate anyone, I'll let the owner of the Vanagonagon tell the story of how he and the owner of a certain blue Vanagon Westfalia attempted grand larceny...8-[

Yep, the challenge was to find out several reasons why it wouldn't run, fix them, and drive it to your campsite!

Kyle?????

Another good time was had by all. This year the weather was great-no rain. Good company, good times. Wish the whole Chattanooga group could have nested together, but the campground seems to fill up earlier every year!

I was, of course, right behind Trevor when his tire blew. Am I a magnet for this sort of thing? Let's see...Zen's oil, the dent from the tire chunk headed to Florida, now this. Maybe I should be leading the pack! No damage, though.  Good thing I bought a bra this summer! Bad thing that it still sits in its box in the garage!
