Bugout 2002 - Manassas, Virginia

« on: July 02, 2002, 06:15:15 PM »
I don't think any of us have been to this show in Manassas, Virginia but it will be August 31 and Sept 1, 2002.

This evidently combines a drag race with a VW show and has evidently been going on for a long time. The car show portion is just on Sunday, Sept 1st.  The flyer I received says "Over 45 Show Car Classes".  Does this mean there are 46?????

There is a web site listed of www.bugouts.com

I think it is about a 6-7hr drive but we are going further than that in November for a one day show. Does anyone know ANYTHING about this show?

It has been whispered in my ear that the parts swap is MUCH bigger than the Bug Jam, if that is possible.  It is supposed to be likened  unto the bigger West Coast shows.  I wouldn't know for sure though...never been out west.

I almost went to this one a few years ago, but thought again of the drive and chickened out.  :oyvey:

I've read about it in VW Trends and/or Hot VWs several times . . . seems like the drag racing has gotten rained out more than once in the past few years, but from what I hear, it's a pretty big show that brings in VWs from both the Northeast and the Southeast.  I'm sure we would see some VWs we've never seen before, so I wouldn't mind trying to get up there . . . anyone else up for it?   :alien:

I just looked at Expedia Maps to see how far it is to Manasas and it came back with 563 miles - 8 hrs 59 min. from our house to Manasas.  It is one of the suburbs of Washington, DC.  Sounds like a good trip.   :colgate:

Just a thought . . . We could leave early (4:00 AM or so) Saturday morning, and get there Saturday afternoon by 4:00 PM (figuring 10 hours for the trip + 2 hours for stops).  Stay Saturday and Sunday night and come home on Monday. Monday is Labor Day so most of us will be off from work already. Since we would have all day, we could plan some stops at places of interest along the way for the trip home.

If we do it that way we might get more people to go.  What do you think?
