Bug-A-Paluza 8 - April 22-23

« on: February 09, 2006, 10:41:34 PM »
Bug-A-Paluza 8 will be held at Camp Jordan in East Ridge, TN on April 22nd and 23rd. Camping will be avalible on the showgrounds on Friday and Saturday nights (21st and 22nd). Proceeds from the show support the Shrine Ladies' Helping Hands organization, the Chattanooga Area Food bank and other local charities.

Vendor spots and show car entries will once again be $15 pre-registered and $20 at the show (subject to space avalibility). Spectators are charged $2 and 2 cans of food.

In addition to on site camping, a great VW show with several dozens air-cooled and water-cooled classes, and a great swap meet, Bug-A-Paluza offers great food at resonable prices, an on site playground for the kids, a Saturday night "Mini Drive-In Theater," and other entertainment and activities for everyone!

The theme for this year's show is "The Year of the Rabbit."  We will give special recognition to all Rabbits entered in the show.

We will have more details posted as soon as possible! We are looking forward to seeing you in April!

Bug-A-Paluza is presented by The Scenic City Volks Folks and friends at Village VW of Chattanooga.

Hey Zen, or other club members...just a quick question on the whole "Year of the Rabbit" thing:

Will that include other Rabbit-based vehicles as well, such as the Rabbit truck (Caddy) or the Rabbit based Cabriolet?   Just wondering, since the BAP graphic shows a Cabriolet, and I happen to own one, so I wanna be special and not just special Ed :P

Thx!

If it has VW on it, it is welcome. If it also happens to be any kind of Rabbit - truck, cabriolet, hard top, junked car, show car, whatever - it will be the focus of this years show.

What Bugz said . . . any way you look at it, we've got a class for you.  If it was sold as a Rabbit, it's in the Rabbit class.  I'm not well versed in water-cooled VWs, but what I think I was told by someone who "should" know is that they were all Rabbits in the begining . . . then at some point the convertibles became Cabriolets, then Cabrios??  Am I way off base on that?  I should have already done my homework on the subject, but I haven't yet.  I'll get busy doing some research . . . in the mean time, one of our other club members should be able to jump in here and set me straight.

LOL I started off as an aircooled girl, first the Fastback, then the Ghia.  When all of a sudden, I found myself married, got my husband into VW's, and lo and behold!  he discovered watercooled and got me interested in them.  Now I own three waters, and still have my air.

The Cabriolet is not badged as a Rabbit, but only in name.  The bodies are the same.  Sometime around 1984? (could be wrong about that) VW decided that the Rabbit name was not selling as well as it could be and rebadged the Rabbit Cabriolet to just "Cabriolet".  Body stayed the same (A1 Rabbit), though, until 1993.

Cabrio was released in 1995-not a Rabbit, just a Golf. They skipped 1994 altogether.

There :D  How was that?

Thank you for the replies.  I am so excited about this year's show it's not even funny.  I still have pics from the first time the hubby and I attended, back when BAP was held in the parking lot of the VW dealership.  Wow, has it ever grown since then!!

I wish I were close enough to repay you guys for a great show by helping prep in person.  Unfortunately, the best I can do for you is help promote it and bring a small crowd with me.

That's probably the most important job of all!  After all, no matter what we do to get ready for it, if no one shows up there won't be a show.   8)

I've said it many times in the past . . . the reason our show has been survived and grown over the last 8 years says more about the VW community in the Southeast as a whole than it does about the folks in our little corner of it.   8)

Zen,

I have some items for the participant’s bags. Dan Bowen, the founder of the "Resaca Beach Calendar Girl" contest (www.resacabeach.com)is donating 200 of his 2006 calendars featuring lots of beautiful girls. The calendar was shot on Monteagle Mtn. at various locations and is very tasteful. Some of the contest winners have went on to do very well for themselves. Marla Maples (Donald Trumps Ex) is a past winner and others are now top models, TV reporters, and one girl from this year’s calendar will be featured as "Playmate of the month" in the April 2006 edition of Playboy.

My wife manages a car dealership in Dalton and has donated a big box of key chains
With her company logo on them.

I assume these donations are acceptable. Please let me know where to drop these items off.

Glenn

It is my understanding that all who show vehicles get a goodie bag. If the calendars are acceptable to the club then yes, 1 calendar ($10.00 value) will be included in each bag.

Glenn, your items will be MOST APPRECIATED for our goodie bags. We are planning to "stuff" 250 bags this year.

As a side note, Mid Americia has donated, to our cause, their canvas bags they have in their catalog to use for our goodie bags. They haven't come in yet but I expect them any day. :D

Do you guys have any printable flyers for this?

I thought about printing some and posting them on bulletin boards and such around here in Cleveland...
