Bug's By the Fire - Febuary 7th meet, West Ga...

« on: January 10, 2004, 02:48:12 PM »
I got an email from Charles Overton the other day wanting me to help spread the word about the West Ga. Chapter of the Southeastern VW Club's "Bugs by the Fire" (a.k.a. "Bugs by the Burnout").  Here's the latest description from the Southeastern VW Forum:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Feb. 7 Meeting starts at 1:00 PM till ... Who is invited??? All area VW clubs and anyone who is up for a night of excitement and fun.

Come for an afternoon of fun and food at the home of Charles Overton's (back lot). We have room for a swap meet if anyone is interested and will have horse shoes and hot wheels races for the kids - young and old. Bring your chairs and hang out! We will cruise around town in the VW's in the afternoon and are planning to take a group shot - bring your smile!

Finger foods during the day and roasted wieners and marshmallows on the bonfire in the evening.

Primitive camping space is available for anyone who would like to stay overnight - bring your own tent. A porta-potty will be available.

And, if anyone wants to bring anything, get in touch with me or Renee (renee@stoffel.com). The Overton's will furnish for the most part, but anyone who wants to is welcome to pitch in.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I'm up for it . . . anyone else?   ???

I think it would be good PR for as many of us as possible to attend. Afterall, they ALWAYS support our events. It would make for a good cruise and a great start to the up-coming show season. Dee and I will be planning on going. What time do we meet and where?????????????

Anybody know exactly where this is?

I've got to get home from All-State East in Gatlinburg and take the Vee to be tech-ed that day.  We might be able to leave early afternoon, but I'm not sure about making it there by 1PM.

Been there once a couple of years ago . . . it's in Talapoosa, GA, north of I-20 near the Alabama line.  It's not too far south of Cedartown.  Seems like it took me about an hour and half from my house.

We discussed this at the meeting and decided to meet at the old Sam's Club on Lee Hwy @10:30a? and then meet, for the ones that live further south, at the 2nd Ringgold exit #348 FoodLion @11:00a?.  Not sure about the times but if it is 1 1/2 hours from Zen's then we would need to leave the FoodLion by 11:15a.  For those meeting at FoodLion, take I-75 South to the 348 exit.  Turn right off the ramp and it is at the second light on the right.

I'd be up for it and I think Misty might, too.

Off the subject, anyone need a Church Key?  It's at a locksmith on Dodds for $3.50.  It's an aftermarket (forget the name) , T shaped with a loop(not P) and has "for Volkswagen" printed on it.  The lady almost acted like she didn't want to sell it because she didn't think I knew what it was, or maybe she thought she'd have to cut it.  I had to quote chapter and verse as to what it was for before she was convinced!

I sent him an email last night saying there would be "about" 10 of us . . .

I'll be going.  Joy will be going if she doesn't have to work.

I think Dee and I will be going up just for the day, too. Kevin Wilson called me last night and I think he is going but he didn't say if he was going to stay overnight or not.

I believe we have decided to only go for the day.

We will be a little behind you guys in leaving.  We will try to catch up, but if we don't, we will see everyone there.

I think I've changed my mind.  I don't think I'll be camping either . . . not unless it turns spring between now and then!

I got an email back from Charles tonight . . . he said to bring soft drinks.  They have everything else covered.

So . . . who all is still planning on going?  Who's meeting where?

For those that might not be going with the group, here's the directions:
Take US 27 South.  At Summerville, GA you have a choice.  You can head down GA 100 South . . . The road is kind'a winding and there's a whole lot of nothing. The only "town" you go through is Cave Springs.  You cut around the edge of Rome and wind up in Cedartown and come back into US 27.  100 and 27 run together for a few miles, so you can just take 27 all the way . . . straighter roads and maybe a little shorter, but more traffic.  I think it comes out about the same timewise either way.  Just on the south side of Cedartown, take GA 100 when it splits off to the right.  Overton's place is about 10 miles (give or take a mile or so) down 100.  It'll be on the left.  You'll start up a hill and see a big phone tower at the top of the hill and lots of Bugs in various stages of being painted between his house and shop.

I'm afraid Misty and I are going to have to bail on this one, guys.   :(   There's just no guarantee when I'll be done with tech day.  Sorry!
