Bug'n in July

The NAVWC show has changed sites (counties, actually). The new site is in Morgan County, Al., just off I-65 and thus easy to find. As it will be in Point Mallard State Park, there will be tons to do besides the required bug-gazing (for those so inclined).Links below:

Looking forward to seeing you! Maybe a bunch of you guys can
caravan down, just as so many are going to do for BaP.
One aspect I don't think the club has really considered (yet) is
that with this new venue, there will be a fully equipped campground,
literally within walking distance of the show. In theory, you can roll
in Friday, set up  and get a good night's sleep (or yak the night away
with fellow dubbers), and next morning stroll over to the show site in
just a few minutes. This will be a fun and inexpensive way for some
of our out-of area dubbers to attend (there are regular motels aplenty
nearby). Reservations ahould be made, however, as this is inseason.

Correction: I stated above that this was a state park; in fact it is owned
and operated by the City of Decatur (which might explain why it is in
good shape, as state park funding is hurtin' for certain...)

Dolphe, we always have a good crowd to caravan down. We don't always spend the night but now with a campground that may very well change. Is the camp ground shaded. We'll see you in July.

Herb, I haven't camped at this one so can't say with any truth. Having
said that, the website does say shaded...Maybe I can find out Tuesday at
the meeting. Todd has been and some pics are below:

Top bunch is the show pavillion, bottom is around the campground...

My parents used to camp quite a bit when they were able to and this was one of their favorite spots to go to.  I haven't camped there but drove through it several years ago and it was a great place.  Hope we can make this one. :D

Don't forget, for those who want a different type of camping, Monte
Sano State Park (this one really is a state park!) is just 20 miles to the
east in Huntsville; they offer both campground and cabin camping.

Will the show be on the grass or on the parking lot?

If I understood Todd correctly, I think most of it will be under
the pavillion, with only the parts vendors out in the grass. Maybe
I can get this cleared up Tuesday...How many of y'all might come
down? It would be great if you could get a big old posse up!

If I'm not mistaken, the Volks Folks have won the Bug'n in July club participation award two or three years in a row.

Hmmm, this could be taken as a challenge...Maybe I should
stir the pot on some of the other clubs forums   . Btw, if you
guys have spefific questions that you can think of in the next 1-2
days, I'll make a list and try to get answers; If I can't, I'll keep
trying and post here later. Herb, I'm already going to ask about
the campground and grassy vs parking lot.

Is this campground have hook-up, water, electric. sewer.  Will a fifth wheel be able to get in or is it just for tent camping?

The blurb  says it's good for tent, fifth-wheel, and motor
home... Still, I'd call and be sure.  Cindy, help us out; what
kind of camping did your folks do? Herb, Todd confirms the
campground is shaded, and that the show willo be under the
pavillion (with the exception of the parts dealers). Lots of the
crew at the meeting were primed for BaP; gonna be great!

           The campground blurb:

            The campground site map:

                                Hope this helps...

They had a 30 or 32 ft trailer they pulled with a Suburban.  I don't think they ever complained about having trouble getting into camping spots.  My dad wouldn't go back to a place he had a problem with and it seemed like they were constantly going down there with their camping club group.   :)

A month to go, and some folks are starting to reserve
campsites; one of the TnDubs crew has posted his site
number (#134) for those who want to clump up. At the
last club meeting, one of the officers said that the park
had set aside a couple dozen spaces for this show; good
idea, as this is inseason and could fill up fast.
