Considering the weather Friday night, it's probably a good thing, but my crew didn't head out Friday night as planned. We did, however, have a good, rather uneventful trip over to Huntsville Saturday morning. . . well, actually, the show is a little past Huntsville, in Decatur. When we finally arrived, I got dropped off at the show and the rest of my crew headed over to set up camp. It had rained pretty heavy a couple of times through the night on Friday, and we went through several patches of hard rain around Huntsville, but by the time we got there the weather had started clearing and cooled off a little. The dry ground soaked up the rain at the campground and the show was on a concrete pad under a pavilion . . . you couldn't have ask for much better weather for the show or for camping. By the way, this a FANTASTIC campground. The only "complaint" I had was they were a little short on trash cans.
As for the show, it wasn't the biggest show I've ever been to . . . and it didn't have the biggest swap meet I've ever seen . . . and it didn't have the most activities of any show around . . . but what was there was QUALITY.
There was a couple of split window trucks (one single cab and one double cab) that were about as nice as they come. There were a couple of QUALITY "hood rides," a very nice Ghia trike (the vehicle that edged out the Vanagonagon for first place in the special interest class), a Type I VW powered "John Deere" lawn tractor (complete with much needed wheelie bars!), a few super clean glass buggies . . . well, the list goes on and on. Then there were the two Copper colored cars. One eaked (is that how you spell that?) out best engine. The other one came right back and eaked out best Interior. Both were right there in the running for best paint. Two NICE rides . . . but only one could be best of show. So, don't think CJ was just "given" best of show . . . there was some pretty stiff competion he had to beat! There were several VWs that on any given day could win a Best of Show award or end up gracing the pages of a magazine. To win top honors with the competition that Bug'n in July had is a TRUE honor! So, Congratulations Moe and Josh for getting the Copper Jewel out of moth balls and back in the show circuit!
Congratulations are also in order for the Guthries for their Second Place finish in Special Interest and to our "honorary member" VWGirl (by the way Lauren, if you were to actually JOIN, we could drop the quote marks and honorary stuff . . . hint, hint  ) for her second place finish in the late type II class.
The biggest congratulations of all goes out to the North Alabama club for hosting this event! This show has rightfully earned its spot on my "Shows I MUST Attend" list! See y'all next year! =D> =D> =D> =D> :salute:
