I'm sure you'll be sending me some pictures of you winning for the newsletter.

I do not know if there are any Bugz?? I had put the camera up already so I know Josh did not make any. And if anyone else tried they may have broke their camera. Mine has a special lens called "ugly out"to use when I am in the photo. So if the others did not have it, theirs may have broken!!! Seriously I will get a photo made and sent to you.

Considering the weather Friday night, it's probably a good thing, but my crew didn't head out Friday night as planned.  We did, however, have a good, rather uneventful trip over to Huntsville Saturday morning. . . well, actually, the show is a little past Huntsville, in Decatur.  When we finally arrived, I got dropped off at the show and the rest of my crew headed over to set up camp.  It had rained pretty heavy a couple of times through the night on Friday, and we went through several patches of hard rain around Huntsville, but by the time we got there the weather had started clearing and cooled off a little.  The dry ground soaked up the rain at the campground and the show was on a concrete pad under a pavilion . . . you couldn't have ask for much better weather for the show or for camping.  By the way, this a FANTASTIC campground.  The only "complaint" I had was they were a little short on trash cans.

As for the show, it wasn't the biggest show I've ever been to . . . and it didn't have the biggest swap meet I've ever seen . . . and it didn't have the most activities of any show around . . . but what was there was QUALITY.

There was a couple of split window trucks (one single cab and one double cab) that were about as nice as they come.  There were a couple of QUALITY "hood rides," a very nice Ghia trike (the vehicle that edged out the Vanagonagon for first place in the special interest class), a Type I VW powered "John Deere" lawn tractor (complete with much needed wheelie bars!), a few super clean glass buggies . . . well, the list goes on and on.  Then there were the two Copper colored cars.  One eaked (is that how you spell that?) out best engine.  The other one came right back and eaked out best Interior.  Both were right there in the running for best paint.  Two NICE rides . . . but only one could be best of show.  So, don't think CJ was just "given" best of show . . . there was some pretty stiff competion he had to beat!  There were several VWs that on any given day could win a Best of Show award or end up gracing the pages of a magazine.  To win top honors with the competition that Bug'n in July had is a TRUE honor!  So, Congratulations Moe and Josh for getting the Copper Jewel out of moth balls and back in the show circuit!

Congratulations are also in order for the Guthries for their Second Place finish in Special Interest and to our "honorary member" VWGirl (by the way Lauren, if you were to actually JOIN, we could drop the quote marks and honorary stuff . . . hint, hint   ) for her second place finish in the late type II class.

The biggest congratulations of all goes out to the North Alabama club for hosting this event!  This show has rightfully earned its spot on my "Shows I MUST Attend" list!  See y'all next year!   =D>  =D>  =D>  =D>  :salute:

I agree 100% Zen that this show had Quality present. The dedication and hard work of the NAVWC shined through very clearly on this first 2 day event for them. This show is a definite "must attend" as you said Zen!!! I must admit Josh picked Best Engine to go to Aprils car. We saw some real errors on ours, but have already started on getting the engine back to where it was when we had the 2232 in it as far as making it really stand out. To get the interior award was a surprise because we saw some faults that had developed but are being corrected. One award I say was truly spot on was the Peoples Choice. This involved a 68 VW Beetle if I remember correctly that was purchased by a grandfather, passed on to his son and then to his son who is driving it daily at college. Now that is a great history and story!!

I made them on my daughter-in-law's camera.  As soon as I can get it from her so I can download them, I'll put them in the gallery.  I had two extra memory cards with me . . . I don't know why I didn't think to just stick one of my cards in her camera.  Probably the same reason I didn't remember to charge either sets of my batteries.   #-o

I've been out of pocket this past week but I want to throw my CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! to Moe and Josh for their awards and to Kyle and Betty for their award. We had a pretty good crowd to attend, also and I thank those of you who were able to make it down.

I've got a few pictures of the "goings on" Saturday but, regretfully, I wasn't there on Sunday for the awards.

This is turning into another great Southern show and I personally want to encourage everyone who can to attend next year. The facilities are wonderful.

am i not getting congratulated cause i am only an "honorary member"? that's surely a way to get me to join... :?

It was a very small show and swap meet, but it was cool that it was covered... of course if it gets much bigger they wont be able to keep it completely under cover. was good to meet some more of you :) and nice to see CJ in person :)
