Birmingham Bug Blast - Moody, AL

« on: May 28, 2004, 10:08:22 PM »
Be sure to put this one on your calendar!  The 4th Annual Birmingham Bug Blast will be held on August 29th, 2004 at Moody City Park, Moody, AL. (just east of Birmingham off of I-20).  This show is growing despite being rain soaked for the last two years.  I have been told that they have ordered a warm, partly cloudy day with a light breeze this year . . . whatever the weather you can count on having fun!

By the way, they have had a GREAT swap meet the past three years . . . lots of folks cleaning out their garages and selling good stuff cheap!  Last year I bought a brand new (never even bolted to an engine!) baja header with a stinger for $20!  At the first show I missed out on a complete type 1 line-boring bar and thrust cutting set up . . . it sold for $200 before I could get to a teller and back with the money.  A few weeks later, I saw the same type boring bar without all the extra cutters and the thrust cutter go for over $600 on eBay.

I'm driving Homer the Superbus to Birmingham.  I'm going to be vending, so I'm planning on leaving early.  I'll be taking 136 out of LaFayette and hitting I-59 at Trenton.  For those of you who may be running behind me . . . bring a couple of extra quarts of oil with you please.  Someone throw in and extra drain plug while you're at it.  When you see a large oil slick on the road start watching for Homer on the shoulder.    :D   Anthony might recommend that you bring some type of grease and oil remover and lots of cleaning rags . . .  :D

For those of you who haven't been to the Birmingham Bug Blast before, you might want to consider bringing a large umbrella or a small canopy.  I haven't missed a Bug Blast yet.  I can tell you from experiance that you are going to need to protect yourself from either sun or rain.  Either way, you'll have fun, meet some cool VW folks, and find some bargins in the swap meet area.  By the way, if you need any TMI upholstery products, contact Tony at Sun Coast Bugs and if he's got it, or can get it in by Bug Blast, you'll get a BIG discount and he'll deliver it to Brimingham at NO CHARGE!

Normally, we meet up at the Wildwood Exit off I-24 and we have started meeting at the Amoco station at that exit. We need to leave no later than 7:30am inorder to get there before all of the "goodies" are gone from the swap meet. Does this sound agreeable with the masses?

Sometime between now and then I'll get the CVs changed on Homer . . . and I'll make sure my oil drain plug is tight . . . and I have a full tank of gas . . . and all of my bumper bolts are tight . . . and my heater boxes are tight . . .

If you need any more incentive, remember the cool custom-made ceramic plates they gave as trophies?  Misty and I will make plans to be there!

Well, I guess I had better be the responsible Daddy and go to Talia's birthday party...on the 29th.  The party was supposed to be on the 28th, but the coordinator at the zoo messed up and gave the time slot to someone else.
Hmmm...maybe I can get up realllllly early and leave the show reallllly early?
I had better not.

If any of y'all read this before you leave, I'm going across Lookout Mountain to Trenton (saves me about 50 miles).  I'll hook up with the caravan somewhere down I-59.

I'll get some pictures uploaded to the photo gallery in the next day or two.  We had a great time, and every Volks Folks member car entered in the show took home a trophy!    \:D/

And just in case you were wondering, NOTHING fell off of Homer.  The Super Bus made the trip without any problems!  If I'd of know how much a differance it makes to have all 4 CV joints in good condition I would have fixed them a LONG time ago.   #-o
