Bad Camberg 2007

« on: December 31, 2005, 12:17:40 PM »
Bad Camberg 2007 is scheduled for June 22-24 of 2007
If anyone is planning on going lets see what we can do to start putting a trip together. This far in advance should give us plenty of time to get a group together to go.
Herb, if your friend that puts together tours like this is still doing it we need to get in contact with him and get the ball rolling!

Who else is interested in going?

538 days and counting!

Guess we ought to commit to a date and show at some point. I don't think I'm busy that weekend, so we'll say "sure" at this point. How close is that to Wolfsburg and/or Widenbruck (Westfalia HQ)?

As best I can figure its about a 200 miles between Wolfsburg and Bad Camberg. Either renting cars and going by the autobahn or going by train would be fun. I personally would like to see several sights while there, including Wolfsburg, the Black Forest region and the Alps as well as a few WWII sights.

Mark Joy and I down as a definite "maybe."  I'd REALLY like to go.  A lot depends on the length of the trip and, of course, cost.  I've seen pictures of lots of really cool stuff folks have found at Bad Camberg . . . rare parts, rare toys, etc.  I hate to get there and not have any money to spend!

To get a ball park idea of the airfare I just did a search on Travelocity for November 2006 (that's as far out as their calendar goes) and the price for travel from Atlanta to Frankfurt is $656 on the low end and $774 on the high end. Add to that the cost of getting from Hamburg to Bad Camberg and then any other travel costs (like to Wolfsburg). A quick check of hotels in the Frankfurt area shows the three star hotels (like holiday inn express) at about $70 a night. Of course you could always spend more!
Hopefully with a group big enough those prices would come down.

Neat web sit Bugz . . . thanks for posting it!

There are some very interesting VWs in the pictures.  Can someone identify what type of VW that is in the lower left corner of the picture below?

What is the white car in the lower left corner???

judging from the website picture it looks like a beetle made into a station wagon, but what is the one I've highlighted in the picture below? Looks like a Datsun Z car!

I didn't think anyone would catch that Bugz!    Since I cropped off the front fenders I thought for sure someone would jump in there and say it's a squareback.

When you look at the big picture, it does look as if it's a Beetle that someone has fabricated into a station wagon.  The one you highlighted does bare an uncanny resemblance to a Datsun Z!

Thanks for doing the research on that. Are those airfares one-way or round trip? Sounds like costs might not be too bad once we get there.

Sorry, left out an "e"-it's Wiedenbruck. Here's a link (en Deutschen) about the museum http://www2.rheda-wiedenbrueck.de/kultur_bildung/sp_auto_12797.cfm?ag=111&sr=1411&pfad=kultur_bildung

and their homepage http://www.westfalia-van.de/
Some pages have an English option and under "KundenCenter" is a link to the museum. There's a mail-order store, too!

those are round trip air fares, but they are ball park only. We would have to rely on a travel agent I suppose to get us the best possible rates. I figure that starting this far out should give us plenty of time to get the best deals we can as well as plenty of time for people to save up the money.[/i]

I'll contact Al today and give him the info so he can get started and see what we can do.

The "buddy" is Al Wagner, who is a member, up in Detroit. :D

Its possible that the "Z" looking car could be a  VW SP made in Brazil. The earlier SP came with a twin carb type-1 engine in the rear and later ones came with rear mounted water-cooled. I have photos but can not post them do to not having a Mac compatible scanner yet.

isn't the SP a bit more modern (circa 60s-70s)? Bad Camberg is supposedly restricted to just the more rare vintage VWs. I could be wrong about that but that is what I thought it was.
