« on: April 18, 2011, 07:38:28 PM »
Our friends at Airkooled Kustoms are hosting Bugs 'n Brats, an annual VW show & shine and cookout.

It's held at AKK Headquarters, 180 Pauline Dr in Hazel Green, AL on October 15, 2011. Gates open at 10 and grilling begins at 11. Free admission and entry. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies will be awarded to crowd favorites.

Come see Spook and the crew at Airkooled Kustoms and enjoy some great food and cars.

This is coming up soon so be planning to go. We will be meeting up to travel down together, time and location to follow.

It's a totally free event and AK is cooking the meat, but they ask if you can bring a side dish that would help everyone get enough to eat. Trophies will be awarded too! This is a fun afternoon and if you've never checked out Spook's shop, you will be impressed. This is also a good way to thank Airkooled Kustoms for supporting Bug-a-Paluza.

I'm planning on going!

:(  Guess I'm not going after all.  The family has made other plans for me.  Y'all have fun and tell Spook I hated to have to miss it . . . again.   :(

Had a great time, me and Mike and Debbie and Lamar and Cindy met at the Wal-mart at 9 AM and headed up. Nick and Megan caught up with us. The cookout was great, perfect weather and a big turnout. Lots of food and cars. We stayed there most of the day and when everything died down, we rolled Mike's bug into the shop to replace the fan. All in all a pretty good day. I took only a few pictures.

It was a fun time! Bonnie did well driving down. It was a very nice and relaxed show. I kinda like the whole pot luck meal and people's choice show and shine. pretty much all they did was set up a tent for registration and t-shirts. The only extra they did was an engine blow. It was fun, but kinda sad. They assured me that those parts were junk junk junk, but the dang thing ran pretty well on two cylinders almost 2 minutes after it threw the crank pulley at me. You could clearly see the 3/4 side lazily smoking out the exhaust and the 1/2 was still poofing smoke out with each compression. As a last ditch effort, it threw the pulley woodruff key at the builder, barely flying over his head. It dumped the oil out of the valve cover and shortly after, it gave up, by locking down from lack of oil.
