Why Me!

« on: November 21, 2007, 02:25:02 PM »
Hello everyone, i am new to Volksfolks thanks to Vwgirl. I have not fully joined yet but will soon. My road story happened about 20 years ago. back then i worked at a vw garage doing general help stuff. I had a 1970 bug that i was allowed to restore using their equipment and paint etc sence if they let me do that i would work for half the given pay. Well it took me about 6 months to do a full frame off restore. The day had arrived and i left work in my beautiful bug. The sun was out and it was warm so i had the rag top sunroof back. It seemed to be too perfect so i was worried. About 3 miles down the road i stoped at a street light and looked in my mirror. What i saw caused me to say " Oh s#%$ " and it happened. A guy drinking a coke hit me at 45 to 55 mph. The impact was so hard that the front windshield cracked and the gas door was nocked open. Not to mention all the body and frame damage. The one good thing at the time was that there was a police car 3 cars behind him. I was able to start the car and drive it back to the shop where i spent another month putting it back together but i could never get the floor pans sealed again so i sold it and have not had another bug sence then till about 6 months ago. The new one is a 1969 bug. The mechanics part is almost done and some body work is going on. I hope to post some pics soon. Great to be here and look forward to meeting everyone.........Robert

It was the old Johnson Sipe garage just over the Dam where the oil change place and such are now. As for making the meeting during the week it will be hard to do. I work monday thru friday on second shift so only weekends are open for me......nut we will see what we can work out.

Robert, I think you have a few facts confused.   I am Johnston of the late Johnston-Sipe Service for Volkswagen and we were on Shallowford Rd and not across the dam. The only VW shops that I knew about across the dam was Don Woods Volkswagen( VW dealership) and Dick Kite VW and both of them were long gone before we opened up in 1978.
