VW Wave

« on: September 27, 2011, 11:55:53 PM »
Every time I see another VW driver, no matter who it is, I always try to throw up a peace sign or an acknowledgement to them and their car. I'm not sure if any of you guys do it, but I hope you will start if you don't already do! It's always exciting when someone returns it to you, and it has only happened a few times.

I drove an old ratty '69 Bug to my brother's house in Murfreesboro, TN several years ago.  We went for a ride in it and after a couple of miles he said "How do you know all these people?"  When I asked him what he meant, he said something like, well I've lived here 5 years and you've had more people wave at you in the last 2 miles than I have since I've been here, and you're waving back at all of them.  I had to explain to him that it wasn't "me" they were waving at . . . and when you drive a bug, you just get used to waving at everyone, cause everyone waves at you.  Even when I'm not driving a VW, I still wave at any VW I see going down the road.

I drove a Jeep Wrangler before I got my 72 Bug. Jeepers do that too,but it seems to be only the Wrangler drivers.

I've heard about the Wrangler drivers too. I just think it's a friendly way to show your dub love to others. So if I see any of you I'll be waving.

We waved back in the 50's and 60's.  We even pulled over and stopped and compared notes sometimes even in a different state. I have waved to people all over the U.S. It was the proper thing to do back then. Glad to see it again. ;D ;D ;D  We had a blast trying to outrun Semi's on flat ground and pass going up the mountains. It never got boring in a 36hp or 40hp. To bad you young "WipperSnappers" missed out on the good old days .

The only problem I have is that the water cooled people usually don't wave back.
