Trip to Atlanta 1980's

« on: June 23, 2005, 04:04:32 AM »
It was the mid 80's and I was a teenager. A good friend called me and have tickets to see Robert Palmer at 6 flags. I was on the road in 30 minutes. Now I was wild back then. I pick up my friend and the thing was...8 people were going and I had the only car. A 1970 bug. Yes, 8 people in the bug for 2 hours one way. I had a hole in the back floorboard. We dropped the empty beer cans in it, so it looked like we ran over it. 5 people in the back and 3 up front. Oh and it was summer. Yeah, 90 something degrees. My mother still laughs about it. I think we broke a record that day.

Been there ,done that. My body hasn`t gotten over that yet. check this out: The year-1958
The car- 1952 Split window bug
       5 bodys, 2 over 200pds(everybody over 6 ft tall)
About 300 pds of Muzzle loading rifles on top or in car
Camping gear for 5 including 1 large cooler on top or in car
Supplys for a week stuffed everwhere.
Spare tire tied to the front bumper.8x10 tent tied to the rear bumper
With a 25hp engine howling in the rear, maybe 50-55
mph once in awhile we drove from Chattanooga Tn to Friendship Ind for the National Muzzle-Loading Championships. That little Bug never missed a lick the whole trip. About 900 miles that seemed like 100,000 miles.
Matter of fact, this when I fell in love with the "Little Varmits" Don`t ever tell me that they ain`t tough
