The cops took my bus!

Yep, the police towed the stretch Vanagonagon away! I was driving Austin to school and we ran out of gas. I'm not a seasoned veteran at this, like Zen :D  I did not get the van all the way off the road. It was on hwy 41 towards Ringgold. We start walking since I left my cell phone at home. Walked about a mile and a half when a man stopped to see if we needed a ride. Couldn't feel my ears at this point, so the answer was YES! Dropped Austin off, bought a gas can & gas, and started back to my van when I saw it on the back of a wrecker! "STOP! THERES MY VAN!" They had just pulled in with it, and was very happy to see me. They were worred that no one would claim it, and might not have room for this monster! I told him it was just out of gas, how much do I owe you? He said "well.... $25". Mark Teter from Teter & co. let me take my van and bring back cash later. The tow driver used the wheel lift so not to hurt the v-dub. I haven't dealt with these guys before, but 20 years ago, the tow company I worked at would have charged $35 for the tow plus storage as soon as it hit the lot, plus made you get a police release form first!  This Teter & co. has 24 hr towing and the drivers know what they're doing, even with a precious VW. 706-935-2430

Well, you seem to have taken it a little better than I would have.  I would have been fuming about the *@&! police having my vehicle towed when it was just out of gas!
Glad to hear that it didn't cost you more than that!

Teter is a VW guy.  His shop in Ringgold has done restoration work on them.  He gave me good advice on a KG cabrio I was thinking about getting once ("don't do it."  He was right).  I'm thinking about having him look at doing the Panel Shed.

 I can't believe the police there!  I wonder if they would have done the same if it had been a good-ole'-boy's  poopie-box Nova or Pick-Em-Up.  Herb, what's the policy on this?   Was the van actually blocking traffic, or on the shoulder?  I see dead cars sitting for DAYS along hwy 27 ALL the time.

I got 90% off the road but, it was in a curve, so I understand it getting towed quick.

You just need more practice.  When I mess up and don't get all the way out of the road (yeah, as many times as I've run out, I still misjudge my coasting distance sometimes) I put it in 1st gear and walk it on off the road with the starter.  Of course a stock starter might have a little trouble pushing the Vanagonagon.   :D

I hate to defend the cops down there but if it was in any way in the roadway, it is considered a traffic hazard. We are talking about Georgia Folks. If any of the Vanagonagon was still in the roadway, it WAS a traffic hazard. I truly hate it got towed but I personally would rather see it towed than tore up by some idiot who can't drive on Ga's narrow roads and their shoulders are worse. Hwy 41 is heavily traveled by logging trucks and if 1ft of "Stretch" was in the roadway, he would have been history. The cops MAY have actually done Kyle a favor.

Good one, Andy!

Yeah, I guess if it's in the road, you don't want it hanging out for long.  That $25 would be a whole lot cheaper than a caved-in rear end!
