Sometimes you just catch a break

So I went to fill up the Rabbit tonight. The tank wasn't empty, I just wanted to start our cruise tomorrow on a full tank.

When you pull up to a pump, what's the first thing you usually see on the screen? Insert card. Only this pump didn't, it just said lift handle and make selection. Okay. I tried swiping my card anyways and nothing happened. So I just picked up the handle and made my selection, like it says. Now the screen says "Authorized amount: $50.00". Okay, whatever. I pumped about seven gallons into the Rabbit, and it said change due, around $23.00.

I walked inside to pay and told the attendant which pump I was on. She immediately popped open the cash drawer and started to hand me twenty-three dollars and some change.

"Er, no I actually haven't paid yet," I told her, trying to hand her my card. She was pretty puzzled by this actually, and acted like she wasn't sure what to do. "I mean if you just want to give me change, okay, but I'm letting you know I haven't given you any money for this." She really didn't know what she was supposed to do I guess, she was just standing there with 23 dollars in her hand. Finally she called over the manager, who seemed equally puzzled.

"Ah, just don't worry about it," he said. "Okay, well if you're sure, thanks!" I walked out the door. Honestly, I'm not sure who was more confused over what just happened, them or me.

So for whatever reason, my trip to Helen and back is now costing me nothing.

This was the Murphy Express on Lee Highway in front of the T-Mobile call center. They usually have the cheapest diesel. This time it was the cheapest ever!

I have sort of thought of trying to find a nice Rabbit diesel like Russ's to ease the pain of fueling up my thirsty Dodge P.U.   I have about 500 gal. of fuel at my house. That ought to last me for awhile. ;D

Isn't it the fuel from when houses used to be run off of heating oil?!?!? That stuff might be half as old as David and twice as bad!

According to my sources it's just fine. The oil I have just needs to be filtered before using (sediment)  Those old diesel's will run on anything.  I had a customer that ran a '79 Diesel from new for about 300,000 miles on home heating oil with no problems.  He was getting between 48-50 MPG .
Well Dud Nick, Called "Home Heating Oil".  Do you think ? ;)
